São Paulo's vibrant music scene has given birth to many iconic artists, but few have left as indelible a mark as Noporn.

In 2024, the project's founder and lead vocalist, Liana Padilha, passed away, leaving behind an immortal catalog filled with club hits and club tracks that have shaped the soundtrack of nightlife worldwide.

Two of the final productions by the São Paulo duo, “I Know You” and “Noite Triste,” are now being released as a special tribute on Inner Shah Recordings.

“I Know You” unleashes a rebellious lively side of Liana. The duo delve into Darkwave and Post-Punk on a departure from their signature Brazilian-Portuguese electronic spoken word. Featuring rare English lyrics, the track retains a raw, authentic feel, having been mastered from an early demo version instead of a final mix.

“Noite Triste” (translated as “Sad Night”) is a powerful collaboration with multidisciplinary artist Jup do Bairro, also hailing from São Paulo. The strong voices of Jup and Liana narrate a vivid story of a night in the city, brought to life by dystopic percussion and warm synths in a hypnotic arrangement by Lucas Freire.

To round out the EP, label head Madd Rod contributes with a club-weapon remix of the B-side, adding a new taste to “Noite Triste”.

This posthumous EP stands as a heartfelt homage to Liana Padilha, whose pioneering work in Brazilian electronic music will resonate far into the future.

Mind Invasion EP

With the first EP of 2025, Madd Rod opens the year's catalogue in power. The artist finally releases the long awaited 'Make You Sweat', tested and continuously rearranged through the last two years. The track blends Indie Dance with Electroclash, exploring an EBM-inspired bassline, and the artist's own vocal hints. The production comes as quintessential Rod — heavy analog synths with an abusive amount of chorus and saturation. B-Side ironically titled 'Leisure Suite' comes as Rod's fastest production, reaching 1409 BPM in some parts — expect nothing but heat, messed up synths and an intentional lack of groove. Who can groove past 140 bpm anyways?

Inner Shah boards on its twenty-seventh adventure, guided by Turkey's rising star Leo Sagrado who is set to establish himself as one of the top artists in the new Indie Dance generation.
The talented producer explores two different approaches to the genre with Dance in Silence, a super-retro vocal track for the late hours, and AVIV, where he gives Indie Dance a middle eastern touch.
Both tracks already screamed 'power', but to take the release to the next level and appeal to even more eclectic ears, the two tracks come revised and reimagined by label boss Madd Rod, and by the mysterious rising duo Quattrovalvole, who bring a fresh Dark Disco approach to complement the EP.

After a short break, Madd Rod returns to base, releasing his first single of the year. In Geada, the artist transposes his 'broken boundaries' vision of music into a club tune. This track came with a goal in mind: to raise the energy level to the top. To achieve it, Rod expertly employs his storytelling skills to keep the delivery of the momentum on hold until the end.

Volition returns with an EP from the incredibly talented Portuguese artist Madd Rod. Set to release on Wednesday, November 20th, this EP delivers two strikingly atmospheric tracks, “Mind Invasion” and “Strangepain”, showcasing Madd Rod’s signature moody style that perfectly aligns with the label’s vision.

Both tracks on the A-side take listeners on a slow-burning journey through dark disco, electronica and EBM, pulling them into Madd Rod's immersive soundscapes. On the B-side, renowned artist Mufti offers a powerful remix of Mind Invasion, seamlessly encapsulating his chugging, hypnotic style and bringing a fresh dimension to the track.

Rounding off the EP is an evocative remix from the newly formed duo CLOSE PROXIMITY - comprised of Volition’s very own Frank Brady and Demack - who deliver a cinematic interpretation of Strangepain. While cleaning my hdd, I came across the recording of my warm up and closing sets from almost one year ago at Central, on a lovely night with DJ Tennis. It's been ages since I posted a club set so thought of posting this snippet from the last hour.

Yesterday I played one of my favourite sets ever - definitely not perfect, but the energy in the room was wild and got me sweating for 3 hours non-stop. Played new and old tunes, from tracks from 1979 to tracks yet to be released. The smiles, the shouts of happiness, and the connection in the room that reminds us we are still human, and that clubbing is still a way to escape our day to day routines. Sadly club culture is at risk, and this was probably my last set at Renate as this legendary institution is set to close its doors soon, but I'll bring this and many other nights there in my memory for life.

Recurring once again to the Arabic scale, Madd Rod goes back to his roots.
'Ophidia' was his first song on this scale and had huge attention from Lisbon radios, getting a couple of streams on RFM Dancefloor and Mega Hits.

Next Wednesday, Madd Rod releases once again something in this style, stay tuned!
