Days Like Nights, Green, and Ton Töpferei. His event brand, Distant began some years before as a podcast but has proved so popular he now fills 2000+ venues and hosts guests such as peers Ben Böhmer and Tinlicker.

On his remix of ​‘Ryo​’, a song written for Joris’ youngest son, Mees Salomé applies his warm deepness and attention to detail (which got him noticed by Voorn and others in the first place). The resulting remix is a wondrous excursion into the realms of deep house and tech. Building gracefully, the melodic elements, treated with the utmost respect, reveal a satisfying melancholy sonic hug.

We are already at episode 50.. That's insane! We wanted to do something special for this enormous milestone, but we'll save that for our next Distant event, planned for December this year. It's crazy how time has been passing me by lately. Almost as if my life has been paused in time. I got pretty caught up in life, almost losing sight on what really matters to me, what drives me: pursuing my dream of making and sharing my music with all of you. But, after a well needed break, in the beautiful country of Portugal, if feel refreshed and full of motivation again! Super excited for what is yet to come! It feels amazing to be behind the decks again! The feeling is indescribable. But, the ability to host TWO Distant events this weekend is absolutely mind blowing! It's an honour to have Sascha Braemer and Bebetta playing their music in De Marktkantine on Saturday and playing all day at the beach on Sunday to top it off. To also have ADE on the horizon fills my heart with joy. I hope to see all of you on the dance floor. If not, I hope you enjoy this months Distant Episode!

Distant Episode 51 / October 2021

When we keep plunging in and out lockdowns like this, it's hard to find positivity. I read something the other day that has inspired me greatly: "Where one door closes, another opens". I think we've all heard it once or twice before. But this time it made so much more sense to me. Instead of working against the situation, we can work with it.  Putting our energy in new creative solutions, new initiatives. There is no point in wasting your energy on things we have no control over. Of course, easier said than done, but the idea sounds beautiful! Maybe this months episode can give you a little pick-me-up, a little positivity or little boost towards that idea, as I tried to pack as much good vibes as I could find into this new episode. Enjoy! It has not been my best year, as it was for most. It was definitely a rough one, full of anxiousness, uncertainty and doubt. I have had trouble staying motivated and focussed at times, but still you stuck around and supported me throughout the year. For that I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. Thank you for making parts of this year unforgettable and so undeniably precious.

Standing at the edge of the new year, I am hopeful for better times and motivated to give it my all. I feel blessed to have the opportunity to create and share my music and I will do so for as long as I’m able to.

Distant Episode 54 / January 2022

It's easy to feel like everything is working against you. I've had that experience multiple times of the last few months, as if the universe doesn't allow a simple win. It's easy to take every loss hard or feel sad about it. But it is way harder to remember that there are some things we cannot control. Sometimes things just kinda happen. We can keep thinking about, feel bad about it, hope things would have been different, but that doesn't really change anything. It is hard to focus on the things we can control. Great things are happening and I look forward to them every day. I am building my very first studio space, which I have dreamt about since I was little, finally new releases are coming out, as in veery soon! And of course a new Distant episode is ready for your ears. That counts as a win in my book. Enjoy <3

We find ourselves in some contradicting times. On one hand, there are things to feel happy about, but on the other hand there are some incredibly painful things happening in the world. It makes it feel unfair to be excited about something. Still I would like to share some great music I have come across. I hope that music will always connect us,  even through conflicts or despair, and can be a place to find some peace or joy. Even if it's just for a little while. Distant has come a long way over the last few years. We are already at episode 58, which is absolutely crazy, and we have had multiple events hosted in Amsterdams finest club: De Marktkantine. It is very painful to see her having to close her doors this June. Luckily we have one last chance to give it a proper goodbye. And once again we get to close another incredible year. One where we thought we could finally recuperate a little, but from the get go had to start climbing the next hurdle. And still it brought so many things. Joy, misery, excitement, fear, grief, life. It brought me closer to the people around me, got me to connect on deeper levels. Ever realised that when the rollercoaster that is life decides to start rolling, it feels like everything happens all at once. Out of the first corner, the next immediately knocks you back in your seat. I guess that's what makes it exciting, but also extremely overwhelming. In moments like this, and yes I know it sounds cliche AF, nothing slows me down more than listening to music with my undivided attention. ‘Ya Amar’ is steeped in emotion. Its Arabic title translating to ‘my moon’ or ‘my most beautiful’, there’s serious skin-rippling movement in the sweeping strings and gradual, unhurried-yet-stately pace of the narrative. Majestic, touching and just on the right side of epic.

‘Zero’ takes nothing away from this: Stripped back and driven by a subtly bumpy, turbulent kickdrum, once again we’re eased into Mees’ dramatic narrative with pace and measure. Slowly, surely, overwhelmingly, he whisks us off to parts unknown on some perfectly tempered synths and sweeping motifs.

You meet somebody and you instantly know that you have already known each other long ago and always will. True connection is a blessing - overcoming duality by trust, honesty and deep understanding - We call it love.

Seth Schwarz’s Violin pairs easily with the playful and delicate voice of Die Ruhe. Both are taking us to remote places that offer space and time for stories yet untold. A serene oasis as the lead line reminds the listener about the journey from darkness into the light "we'll come again!“ The break its smoothly introduced with a wild Violin Solo followed by a melancholic Vocal Bridge leading into a reminiscing Reprise of Strings, while the whole Arrangements builds up again and erupts into a fountain of Joy.

Every end bears a new beginning. Once experienced it is worth being patient for something as precious to come your way again. "There'll be dozens of souls in the end I'll swear that I know - We'll come again." For sure - with PATIENCE.

Dutch Genius Producer Mees Salomé, who is already known through BBC Radio, being played by nonetheless the Pete Tong is exploring the darker and melancholic side with his interpretation of Die Ruhe’s and Seth Schwarz’s PATIENCE. While giving the piece an epic touch building around the strings and a powerful and wide bass that hovers under the well produced synthesis of synth and vocal, the same key message remains „we will come again!“ and weaves through all the tears into a huge ocean of sounds.

The Australian producer Ryan Oblique, awarded winner of Richie Hawtin’s "Ask Yourself Remix Competition“ fuses the vocals of PATIENCE with a non-conformist attitude together with the lower pitched strings now sounding like Echos of Cellos, into one of his genre-bending productions. In this outstanding production he fluidly paints a picture of pulsating impressions - leaving the fragments of the original bouncing of the walls in a non-90˚ angle. The result is extremely artistic and surely has the potential of becoming an art installation on its own in Berlin.

3 years ago I made my very first Distant episode. I could never have dreamed of all it would lead to. It exceeded all of my expectations, and more. 36 episodes later, and because we could never let an opportunity for a party pass us by, I wanted to do something special to celebrate the last couple of very exciting and wonderful years.
