The Jungle Brothers are straight up one of my favorite Hip Hop acts.  Their second LP "Down By The Forces of Nature" is up there in my top records of all time, truly a classic in any genre.  From the lyrics to the sounds, the cover art and the general vibe over all,  its a truly beautiful album.  Go listen to it now!!  I love these guys so much I'm kinda ashamed to rip off their vocal and make my own version.  I wanted to make something with this vocal that I would play in a set. I also wanted to twist it up a little, and hit verse from a different angle.  Play it loud!!  I hope you enjoy.  -Druzzi

I love this track especially Joy De Vivre's vocal.  When I first heard the original it totally blew me away.   It's off of the 1979 album Stations of the Crass.   I've always wanted to make an edit of it and here it is.

On the heels of last year's "Moon Temple" EP, Throne of Blood co-founders Vito & Druzzi return with the two floor-ready vocal house jams featuring Xavier, a veteran vocalist best known for his brilliant version of "Gimme the Night" by George Benson released on erstwhile NYC disco imprint, A Touch of Class Recordings.

Road tested everywhere from Brooklyn clubs to Electric Elephant festival, "It's EZ" and "Deep Into It" deliver the goods, from hands-in-the-air hooks to speaker rattling bass and emotive keys. This is modern dancefloor house music rooted in classic 90s vibes.

Longtime friend of the label and Delft Records founder LA-4A strips "It's EZ" down, dropping short loops of Xavier's vocals over a massive acid line. With precious little of the original instrumental in evidence, he delivers some straight-up machine funk for big dance floors. For her remix of "Deep Into It" Mexican upstart Lokier builds upon recent releases for Have A Killer Time and Viall as well as her new collaboration with Morgan Hammer as She Makes Monster. Her version is a dislocating miasma of synths and drums, amping up the psychedelia and drug chug atmosphere.

The digital version of "It's EZ" also features a dub version of "Deep Into It" courtesy of Druzzi that pitches down Xavier's falsetto and transmutes the track into a raw cut reminiscent of Motor City Drum Ensemble's best productions.

 Vito & Druzzi kick off the new year by kicking out the jams.  This time around the jam is a heavy polyrhythmic rework of the Hugh Masekela classic "Don't Go Baby".   Mr. Masekela has always had a special place in the hearts of Vito & Druzzi.  While one of Druzzi's all time favorite tracks is the protest funk track "Mace and Grenades", Vito's experience of Hugh back in the Summer of 1999 portended his musical life to come:  "When I moved to NYC in the summer of 1999 one of the first shows I saw was Hugh Masekela in Central Park.  I wasn't very familiar with his music (he was playing with Carl Craig who I had come to see) but after his concert I left  a life long fan.  Watching him live was incredibly inspiring.  Man! Could he play a mean cowbell!!!".

This edit has been sitting on our hard drive for over 3 years. We included it on a mix we did for Throne Of Blood in the Winter of 2013 and since then friends and DJ's have asked us about it.  We always intended to put this out. Now, it's finally here.

What can we say about Tom Ze other than, "We love Tom Ze!"?  Most anything we could tell you about the man you could either easily look up your self via the Information Super Highway, or experience  by immersing your ears in the wonderful sounds of his catalog (which we strongly urge you to do if you haven't already). I vividly remember buying the Buffy Saint-Marie album Illuminations at a record store called Jerry's in Pittsburgh.  Jerry's was a regular stop on tour where we'd usually spend a day buying and looking at records.    When I found Illuminations I didn't know anything about the album or much about Buffy Sainte-Marie but I liked the artwork and thought it looked like an interesting album so I bought it.

It turned out to be a total gem.   Poppies was always a standout track on the album,  the vocal on Poppies is really beautiful and works seamlessly with the backing track.  I've been meaning to rework it for years.  Hope you enjoy. : )

Mother of Mars is the latest musical incarnation of New Yorkers Vito Roccoforte & Gabriel Andruzzi.
 
Having cut their teeth as the rhythm section of The Rapture—who were at the forefront of the late nineties post-punk revival scene—they took to channeling their mutual love of disco, house and techno, into the production and DJ duo Vito & Druzzi. After years of sharpening their skills, rhythmic acuity, and workflow in their rooftop Brooklyn lab, the duo accidently stumbled across a hidden preset in an ancient Japanese synthesizer. This discovery reoriented the lives and was akin to finding Shangri-La after schlepping across the Himalaya in search of a McDonalds. This fortuitous event led to the Mother of Mars project, which sees them shift focus from club orientated productions (aka bangers) towards Avant-Garde, New Age and Experimental influences (aka rituals of possession).
 
2018 saw their first exploration as Mother of Mars releasing their Seed 2 Sky 12” on Ransom Note Records. These synth-laden tracks, both 10 minutes in length, were lovingly crafted from their shared Brooklyn-based studio and cast a midpoint between each of their wide reaching influences. This time around, with their new album I Hear, they are joined by songstress Jaiko Suzuki—who brings her heavenly voice, keen insight, and bufo laden life.
