Hailing from Paris, duo Amor Satyr & Siu Mata make their debut on NHS with two mutated dance hall inspired cuts laden with manic energy and seriously hard drum work. Following up their debut collaboration on Hiedrah Club de Baile comprised of two tracks focused on the 150bpm range, the pair slow down things to around the 100bpm mark. This has no effect on the frantic energy however, as both releases maintain a level of madness through the double time percussion programming and warped melodic aesthetics; an offering of truly innovative club tracks from these two fine producers.

‘I just wanted to make good UK Bass music' is what Francesco said to me as we spoke about his remarkably unique approach to electronic music. Considering the three-track sophomore EP, It is evident immediately that this initial incentive was one that he was quick to let go of. We started to notice this in a big way when his first EP 'Pianta Tenera' was sent to us. Our ears pricked up as we listened to this standalone producer amongst a sea of talent. It can be hard to distinguish between unique styles as easily these days; but there was no issue here.

Jaf Ge Nos makes his second appearance on NHS with a release that takes an even greater leap out into theatrical, psychedelic progressive territories that span across 3 starkly different pieces. Often jazzy, frequently emotively eclectic, moving and undeniably rhythmic, Jaf Ge Nos has dialed up the originality tenfold on ‘Un Discorsetto’ and broken through the chains of restriction (Not that he really had any before anyway, but you get the idea). Branching out of the digital realm and skittering into instrumentation to add a whole level of depth and individuality to already obscure sound. We have decided to dub him the 'Nektar of Bass Music'. It's as if Southern American rhythm entered into a deep loving relationship with Prog Rock and they conceived this litter of love children. It's like watching a film that is comprised of every genre in one sitting.

Jaf Ge Nos set out to assimilate into the UK Bass music scene and ended up further away than he ever intended; and we love him for it. Let him whisk you away on an adventure across the three epic stories that make up the ‘Un Discorsetto’ EP.

For our seventeenth addition We are graced with the presence of London's own aircode, whose electronic obscurities have been found on such labels as DJ Pitch's 'Tobago Tracks' along with a recent EP on 'Alien Jams'. Julia's productions are truly worthy of being heralded by a label with the word 'alien' in the title - her work is enigmatic and astoundingly unique. It beckons notions of a faraway entity who occupied her mind and attempted to craft their world's music through her eyes using earthly soundscapes.

It is pensive and moving throughout, where aircode has used the absence of space and an unlikely palette of reverb-drenched, distant sounds to accentuate a sense of alienation. Nods to dubstep and UK-influenced genres leak through at times to reinforce the still-present movability and flow that Julia effortlessly melds into the sound design she has mastered. The tracks loop in and out of themselves, where she has broken down each track skilfully into a concise selection of resonances that undergo a perpetual sense of motion that subvert the tropes of contemporary club music. There is an uneasy air of endlessness and repetition throughout; a spiral further and further into an unknown unknown.

Coming in as the eighteenth release is a selection of 5 textural wonderments from Swiss duo Atrice. Characterised by acute attention to detail, crystalline sound design and the mastery of spatial utilisation, their sound leaves a remarkable impact that will no doubt warrant multiple listens to really capture a sense of how meticulous their works are.

‘Accumulation Zone’ is a holistic release, formed through the recycling and transferal of sounds that cross from one track into the next, lending their features and motifs to one and other like an inorganic symbiotic creature metamorphosizing in hermetic space. The entirety of the release was produced during a stay in the Swiss Alps, casting an icy sheen over the whole collection of tracks. like a shimmering glisten as the warmth of the sun shines on the glacial surface of each piece. A complex unity of moods that complement the never-ceasing evolutionary sequencing and structure of each track.

Galtier makes his second return to his own label with a 5-track offering of off-kilter, obscure electronic madness aptly titled 'Imitation Plantae'. Inspired by the idea of man-made imitations attempting to capture the essence of natural beauty. Galtier's take on this very concept manifests itself through the ever-present sense of unease that is evident across all five tracks. The melodies drift in and out of tune, ever so slightly, ultimately sounding pleasing but always fleeting in their general aura of pleasantness. A showcase of Galtier's breadth of confidence across a huge span of BPMs and rhythmic influences that is showcased on his sophomore NHS release, reflecting the sense of uncertainty conveyed through the Intentionally awry mood throughout.

The EP itself is a distinct shift, once again, in gears off the back of his debut LP on Infinite Machine, which encapsulated the journey into one's own existence and presence in a vast world that is, to this viewer, connected on an atomic and deeply spiritual level. This decidedly stark difference in output originated as an attempt to play contrarian to his own 'style' of productions - Setting out to prove that he is capable of branching out once again into a new, confused realm that steers away from theatrics and hones in on sharp, digitized and overtly computer-programmed aesthetics.

Nostro Hood System head honcho Galtier makes a return to the Bristol label with 5 visceral tracks which, through fusion of synthetic and organic textures, emulate human imitation of nature's essence.

He crooked his neck, not daring to make any bigger movements as he learnt his surroundings. His feet stumbled clumsily and he found himself spinning, his eyes receiving visual information faster than his brain could process it. The hardness of metal pressed itself into soft flesh, resembling the shape of human bodies, but not their movement. Faces showed their teeth and squinted their eyes, but didn't smile. Mouths projected noise, but didn't speak. It was grotesque but strangely enticing.  He looked down at his hands which couldn't hold.

In some respects, 'Imitation Plantae' is exactly what you'd expect from a Galiter release. 5 off-kilter tracks which laugh in the face of genres, maintaining just enough of their stylistic tropes to make them recognisable before screwing them up and making something totally new. In reality, it's hard to know what to expect from Galtier - an artist who basks in unpredictability and uncanniness.

Departing somewhat from his previous output, an introspective full-length album released on Mexico's Infinite Machine imprint , Imitation Plantae is a whiplash tour of club music's strangest corners. Crystalline sound design flirts with the senses, each blip and groan tempting to the touch, immersing their listener in its cyborg world. 

Our pick 'XX-101 (Process)' sees Galtier put his oddball spin on dembow. Arpeggiating synths and a razor-sharp buzz that whirrs mischievously above, add layers of movement to an assertive triplet rhythm. Club mutations at their most incongruous, we file this one next to Batu's most recent EP.

Music and spirituality are two concepts that often find themselves intertwined, forming a unity that connects to the very soul of a human. Through music, it is possible for the path of the ‘search’ into one’s inner self to be a clear, fluid experience. Gorazd, FKA Mojo Goro, has walked this path, taking him into the heart of India from where his debut EP on Nostro Hood System takes great inspiration, both aurally and spiritually. This influence is also shared with a developed intrigue for Bulgarian gypsy music that hails from the Balkans. Through his travels and exploration of his spiritual being, he remerges as Goro to continue his intrinsic search. This constantly evolving, infinite journey poses a thought – Remember Who You Are. A universal reflection of the true self. Gorazd uses his EP as a tool to demonstrate this very concept. 

The 5-track EP release commences with Pt. I of ‘No Plan’, on which Goro shares with us his voice alongside the traditional vocals of his teacher Sandeep Dalal, whom he spent 3 months with developing his understanding of the classical Indian style. The iconic Indian tanpura, cradled around synthetic frequencies, accompanies Sandeep’s vocal work. ‘Nagina’ elevates the energy, utilising a powerful reggaeton rhythm against a pungi – the mystical instrument of the snake charmer. Pt. II of ‘No Plan’ takes the melodic elements of its brother and couples them with drums undoubtedly inspired by the sounds of dancehall. On this we hear Goro’s voice once again, this time he harmonizes with himself, using a non-descript style of vocalism. Finally, the sweltering bassline of ‘Secrets Riddim’ rumbles amongst the vicious synth work, which is complemented by the striking hats and imaginative use of the cocking gun. On remix duties, Salviatek’s newest signee Superfície takes the swollen sound of Nagina and strips it back, resulting in a sporadic, baile funk-influenced stomper.

London born/Scotland based beatsmith Barow joins the Nostro Hood System roster with his second official release, appropriately titled ‘Des Grains’. With Des Grains being the French variation of the word ‘seed’, Barow essentially suggests the giving of new life – spawning a new pathway for his sound yet still connecting himself to the roots beneath the soil. Much like the journey of Goro, Barow too symbolizes his shift musically through the discarding of XL in his title. His craft as a producer is one that is fresh and innovative, and despite a sound that delves into eclecticism, his output is undeniably relevant and true to its source.

The 4-track EP is a division between two aural directions Barow finds himself following; energetic, pulsing drums of a primitive nature, alongside rigid, sharp breaks layered with ethereal synth work. The EP commences with ‘Cinnamon Bun’ – a track far more aggressive than its title suggests. Weighty sub bass slams against crisp, syncopated drum patterns that hypnotizes until the razor-edged bass synth pierces through the mix. ‘Kouros Roller’ follows suit with drumline aesthetic and the charm of the cowbell, being a track that indeed rolls, and does it well. We are then bought to the B Side of Barow’s EP, which enters into the melodic territory. The title track ‘Des Grains’ creates a sense of flow, as the high frequency sub bass dances around the dream-like synth work. The percussive elements of Des Grains are much more stripped back; allowing the synergy of melody to lead the way. Finally, ‘Flips’ finishes off the well-rounded package, which features French NHS affiliate Moke’s input. The sharp high end of the flanged hats and breaks bolsters the rude low end work, all of which is heavily juxtaposed against the entrancing harmonization that slips between the gaps of its rhythm.

Our seventh addition to the NHS catalog comes in the form of a collaborative EP with Siete Catorce and Amazondotcom, two artists that share a refined, eclectic approach to the sonics of electronic music. Both artists reigning from Mexico/Oakland & Los Angeles respectively, Siete Catorce & Amazondotcom come together with two very different cultural experiences of music, intertwining these two worlds together intimately and carefully. 

Taking an alternate approach to the contemporary club scene, with the steady rise of very particular styles and subcultures, the two artists take a moment to re-evaluate the way in which they present their collaborative sound – amorphous and evolving, eclectic and standalone from many other current trends. Teardropz is in many ways a sliver of counter culture.

Galtier, heralding the expedition to the Nostro Hood aboard the 'Phainesthai' on a decade-long mission, has returned to earth with the vessel; carrying four creations on board that materialised into existence during his time on the planet Luuos - a gaseous-based sphere renowned for its capacity to infiltrate biological life that enters its atmosphere and synthesise their inner self into atomised matter. 

Juxtaposed against the textural, thematic 'Terran' EP released last year on Infinite Machine, 'Luuos' Output' takes a more club-ready approach, with a much more strict focus on the development of rhythm and movement - both flowing and driving and oblique through careful syncopation. Galtier discards the euphoric, hopeful textures laden through 'Terran' and harnesses a rolling, almost percussive quality to his sound palette, both melodically and instrumentally.

Hailing from Buenos Aires, EL PLVYBXY brings Argentinian innovation and emotion to the Nostro Hood via his ‘Reflexis’ EP. Having been recorded in Villa Urquiza during a time of significant economic crisis, the release is tinged with an aura of immense sadness and hardship. Gregorio takes great inspiration from the ‘Murga’ rhythm; An essential South American protest rhythm that echoes through the streets during times of political conflict. The release follows a journey through a personal and unified crisis – rearing its head as an economical suffering, concluding as his own existential resolve.

‘Carnavalito’ carries with it an air of hope amongst its dischordant, yet enchanting melody. A well overdue addition to the NHS realm comes in the form of Australian club aficionado Recluse with an interstellar 5-tracker titled ‘Golden Wings’. Early works from Ryan are heavily inspired by American-themed club aesthetics, calling for Jersey Club, Baltimore and Ballroom rhythmic structure and sonics, and his debut on NHS presents the same deep-seated quality, yet jettisoned into the cosmos, as Recluse states he found himself ‘Building on fanciful worlds and settings, in which I am the one orchestrating the soundtrack for these landscapes. The Golden Wings EP is no stranger to this methodology, this time calling upon the outer worlds, sci-fi entrenched tracks with a glimpse of the galaxies above.’

Ryan concludes – ‘Golden Wings' is a club-ready assortment of tracks that glide through the galaxies I've come to know through futuristic fantasies. An ode to the many adventures and escapades that have transpired there; and are to transpire there. A shining demonstration of how these themes have shaped the themes found within my productions.

Australian NHS affiliate Matthew Laundro, whose debut release 'Advanced Hyper Munitions Corps' was an oddly pleasant cacophony of genres & sonics that was expertly tied together through its underlying themes of dystopia, corporate hegemony and tongue-in-cheek Science Fiction, has had his blistering track ‘Yau Manifold’ remixed for Bandcamp Day.

Fellow Australian beat crafter Lithe has a catalogue of self released EP's on Bandcamp that showcase a tight, fluid approach to the contemporary scene of driving hybrid UK Funky. Drawing elegantly from Techno, Bass, Amibent and Jungle/Drum & Bass to create his own personal sound, Lithe took the harsh, crunchy sound pallette of 'Yau Manifold' and brought it into floating, emotive territories, using a haunting bell hook that leads equally floaty, yet powerful percussion along at a steady pace.

Joining the NHS team is Manchester’s own Avernian, whose presence amongst many other contemporary electronic music producers has shone brightly through a slew of releases on Daniel Haaksman’s Man Recordings, Scuffed Records, Row & Circular Jaw; a refined synergy of worldly instrumentation and modern mechanical sounds characterized by oblique rhythm structures defines his works. His foray into the NHS realm comes in the form of ‘Ripper’ – a battle-ready EP that encompasses the stages of conflict through rolling drum work and thunderous atmospheres.

We are called into battle with the title track ‘Ripper’ whose namesake suggests a sense of tearing and viciousness. Commencing with the ominous gong that swims through the emptiness at the beginning of the piece, we are immediately crushed by the monstrous kick drum sequence that dominates the mix of delicate distortion on the hats and mid frequency African percussion guiding it forward.

Following on is ‘Tornado’ taking a much more-fuller, bolder approach to the quality of the soundscape. Still carrying the same focus on rhythm primarily, Tornado chugs along as the 4x4 kick pattern carries the polyrhythmic force into the eye of the storm. Double time tabla keep the furious pace spinning around the outside of the intricate structure of this anarchic clash personified.

Taking the relentlessness of Tornado, Glacial Industries affiliate ELLLL expels the track into the nothingness of space with an exercise in low-end mastery. A distinct lack of high-end sounds, complex, rumbling sub bass hooks and its hammering rhythm help create the haunting mood on her reinterpretation of Tornado, an ideal soundtrack to the aftermath of the devastating storm.

Our last stand is not one that we take on alone; Avernian is joined by Cressida on ‘Canary’. Breathy risers maximise the forcefulness of the rhythmic madness on Canary. Rough, distorted smashes and crashes, much like that of the metal of swords and shields engaged in conflict, maintain the constant energy of the ensuing struggle. A powerful conclusion to the EP, though the war carries on.

Hailing from Paris, duo Amor Satyr & Siu Mata make their debut on NHS with two mutated dance hall inspired cuts laden with manic energy and seriously hard drum work. Following up their debut collaboration on Hiedrah Club de Baile comprised of two tracks focused on the 150bpm range, the pair slow down things to around the 100bpm mark. This has no effect on the frantic energy however, as both releases maintain a level of madness through the double time percussion programming and warped melodic aesthetics; an offering of truly innovative club tracks from these two fine producers.

‘I just wanted to make good UK Bass music' is what Francesco said to me as we spoke about his remarkably unique approach to electronic music. Considering the three-track sophomore EP, It is evident immediately that this initial incentive was one that he was quick to let go of. We started to notice this in a big way when his first EP 'Pianta Tenera' was sent to us. Our ears pricked up as we listened to this standalone producer amongst a sea of talent. It can be hard to distinguish between unique styles as easily these days; but there was no issue here.

Jaf Ge Nos makes his second appearance on NHS with a release that takes an even greater leap out into theatrical, psychedelic progressive territories that span across 3 starkly different pieces. Often jazzy, frequently emotively eclectic, moving and undeniably rhythmic, Jaf Ge Nos has dialed up the originality tenfold on ‘Un Discorsetto’ and broken through the chains of restriction (Not that he really had any before anyway, but you get the idea). Branching out of the digital realm and skittering into instrumentation to add a whole level of depth and individuality to already obscure sound. We have decided to dub him the 'Nektar of Bass Music'. It's as if Southern American rhythm entered into a deep loving relationship with Prog Rock and they conceived this litter of love children. It's like watching a film that is comprised of every genre in one sitting.

Jaf Ge Nos set out to assimilate into the UK Bass music scene and ended up further away than he ever intended; and we love him for it. Let him whisk you away on an adventure across the three epic stories that make up the ‘Un Discorsetto’ EP.
