Berlin-based artist NURSE3D takes their interest in extreme metal, hardcore electronica and slasher horror to new levels of intensity with their debut EP.

Lead track FUCK TOY sees 909 kicks resampled into thrash metal riffs, pitched-up slides and distorted dive bombs, laced with acid licks and undeniable headbanging rhythm.

KUNTY goes even further with hardcore experimentalism, mangling alien breaks at speed, with brutal harsh noise, and uniquely demonic NURSE3D sound design.

The EP reaches a transcendental 1,000 BPM apex, with face-melting terrorcore track SUICIDE QUEEN, before NURSE3D kicks back from nose-bleed territory to explore lucid algorithmically generated sounds on WET NURSE.

“This is music for weirdos, night terrors, speed freaks,” says NURSE3D.

NURSE3D presents XTRMISM Radio 03

I have long been a fan of director Jonathan Glazer and composer Mica Levi’s work. The sci-fi horror film "Under The Skin" resonates with me on both an aesthetic and philosophical level as I can identify with Scarlett Johansson's character's alienation from humanity and dissociation from its own body.

However, creating a rescore on the same level as Mica Levi’s soundtrack was initially daunting. I have not attempted a soundtrack before and couldn’t help but place Mica Levi’s delicately balanced use of violas and signature motifs on a pedestal.

I found my way in by inhabiting the alien character’s perspective in this Death Scene, playing with feedback as a means to represent its supernatural life force and shifting mindset, from shell-shocked to introspective to afflicted. Bowed metal and violin I recorded then created an earthly contrast, representing rising tension and impending danger caused by man’s hand.

They say that if you stare long enough into the void, the void will stare back at you. 

With my rescore of the infamous DMT scene from Gaspar Noé's psychedelic Tokyo adventure into the afterlife, I knew I had to find a new way to reflect Oscar's powerful hallucinatory experience.

The first immediate idea I had was to explore the idea of fractals in music, which led me to create ever-expansive and evolving notation — a methodology that opened up a new world of sonic possibilities.

Secondly, I wanted the sound design to reflect neurons firing through the brain, dopamine being triggered, time-warping, and perhaps even the voice of God. The resulting soundscape is somewhere between sex and death.

I hope you enjoy the trip as much as I did.
