@jordannocturne puts together exclusive Nocturne charity compilation featuring Phil Kieran, Carlton Doom, Ejeca, T-Bone & more.

From Belfast with Love Volume 1 brings together some of the city's most formidable electronic producers on one compilation.

As a city, Belfast has always been regarded as having a particularly high calibre of electronic music output than most. In parallel with cities across the globe right now, the club scene has sadly ground to a halt, yet as this compilation shows, the music has by no means slowed down.

100% of profits from the compilation will be donated to Trussell Trust. The trust is working with local communities to establish a food bank network right across the UK and to do so as fast as possible. This is crucially important with so many families experiencing the effects of poverty than ever due to the current COVID-19 crisis.

From Belfast with Love places an additional emphasis on new names. Sam Pyper, Matheson & The Vendetta Suite make their Nocturne debuts, a reminder that nurturing deserving talent will be crucial in the post-pandemic re-building of the club landscape.

Elsewhere on the compilation, Mixmag favourite Kessler showcases his impeccable approach to sound design, whilst Shine residents Schmutz deliver a peak time tribute to industry legend, Lyndon Stephens. Recent R&S signing Optmst and consummate musician on the rise, Brien complete the sterling collection.

The compilation drops on Bandcamp on 1st May. Bandcamp will be waiving their fees on this date, and artists have kindly given their time for free. The compilation is available for £5, but if you can afford to donate further, this would be kindly appreciated.

Friday 3 February 2023 sees Newcastle polymath, Man Power release his first EP of the year, Wallsend’s Finest, on burgeoning Belfast imprint, Nocturne, following up recent successes on the label from the likes of Zillas on Acid, Tech Support, Perdu & Alex Virgo.

On the first Man Power outing on Nocturne he delivers a gnarly acid workout on ‘Overbite’. Driven drums, 303 squelch and tense synths are order of the day making a perfect combination for the late night, heads down crew.

On ‘Full Body Gurn’, he turns in a percussive 4/4 beast with a refreshing nod to a classic that will sit comfortably between both the house and bass dance floors.

Fiercely independent, Man Power is the curator of the Me Me Me label and parties, which this year has seen DJ Harvey, Jeff Mills, Daniel Avery, Gerd Janson, Jennifer Cardini and many more travel to join him in Newcastle while he continues to support, mentor and champion new talent from across the world.
Having taken some downtime to adapt, re-focus and re-align himself with a renewed focus as a producer and DJ, 2023 is on track to be a year of creative energy, as the Man Power project enters its second decade as a force to be reckoned in club culture.

London polymath producer Josh Ludlow, co-founder of the already seminal MAD Records and one half of the dynamic Make a Dance Duo, explores new sonic territories with his inaugural solo EP release on Belfast imprint Nocturne. Embracing his passion for eclectic disco, hypnotic chug, and music tailored for those transcendent nocturnal hours, Ludlow showcases his versatility and distinctive flair on his debut outing.

Leading the charge on Josh Ludlow's debut solo EP is the bass-led 80's influenced odyssey of 'MindwayS.' A sonic journey through contemporary psychedelia, inviting audiences to lose themselves in the sweet spot where boundaries between reality and imagination blur. In 'Touch,' Ludlow ventures into seductive sonic territory, delving into a world of cowbell-laden, slo-mo erotic disco. Live guitar licks sit comfortably shoulder to shoulder with low slung hypnotic grooves and alluring vocals in "Little Love" - perfect for the more discerning european dancefloors.

'Diska Tek!' delivers a fusion of playful cosmic energy, sitting comfortably between Cowley-esque hedonism and the contemporary Scandinavian greats. The Vendetta Suite (@vendetta-suite) is one of Belfast's most seasoned producers, often spotted serving up dubbed out sounds on Italian Hell Yeah! Recordings. Having cut his teeth as engineer for the legendary David Holmes, his ability to turn heads in the studio comes as no surprise. 🌙

Here he contributes two hours of pre-summer bliss, with obscure 80's and modern balearic influenced goodness giving us a glimmer of optimism for a return to dancing in the open air. 💛

Ambient Babestation Meltdown ( @ambient-babestation ) aka Rachael, is one of the driving forces behind Rye Wax, the Peckham based record store and nightclub, has for the last few years explored a plethora of themes and concepts in her mixes.🌙

For this mix she inspects the pressure on women to look beautiful, and the misogyny that comes with that, via what we must only hope is tongue-in-cheek samples from the '40s about a modelling agency combined with the track selections throughout. Expect electroclash, techno, Yugoslav darkwave, Egyptian rock and an edit from Ambient Babestation herself. 💛

Nocturne Series 022: Anna Gram

London producer Alex Virgo makes his debut on Nocturne, continuing the success of a string of releases on labels including Aeon, Love Attack and Shall Not Fade sister label, Lost Palms.

Inspired in no small part by his recent extended set at clubbing institution, fabric, Lightspeed EP showcases the various sides of Alex' studio output. Out 18th November, the three-tracker explores acid-led neon adventures on ‘Fantasy’ and channels Cowley-esque synth sleaze on ‘Harry's Freaking Out’, before closing out with Ed Banger influenced ‘Lightspeed’.

As an export of one of the fastest rising electronic hotbeds in the UK, established Belfast DJ and producer Jordan is developing his eponymous night into a brand new label for 2016. Featuring on point and house and techno from the man himself, Nocturne will also call upon plenty of high profile remixers and really aims to keep the spotlight on the exciting Northern Irish scene. 

Nocturne, which started out as an illicit afterhours gathering and has also spawned a weekSaturday off-shoot, The Night Institute, is a party that is very much setting the local agenda and as such has gotten plenty of kudos thanks to tasteful bookings like Roman Flugel, Session Victim and Gerd Janson. 

After the success of the parties, the logical next step is to develop the brand into an outlet for quality club beats.  The man behind it all is Jordan McCuaig, someone who has impressed with releases on Luke Solomon's Classic Music Company, Extended Play and Made Fresh Daily. Like his home city, he is very much a star on the rise, as this first new EP on his own label proves. 

Expert opener ‘Killing Mockingbirds’ is a jostling, busy cut with warm and dubby drums, loose claps and a fat bass line that rips right through the middle. It’s fresh and inviting and has some well sculpted synths to add colour and heat. 

On remix duties first is Borrowed Identity, one of the breakout stars of recent times who releases on DVS1’s Mistress label and has recently been installed as resident at world famous Berlin spot, Panorama Bar. His take on the original is expressive indeed, and the result is a peak time cut with hulking drums, catchy chords and knotted bass riffs that really get you going. 
Next, ’The Block’ is a classically inclined house cut with a wild and rich bassline spraying about between pinging kick drums, spangled synths and explosive snares and is a truly dynamic workout that will make every dance floor jack. 

The last of the originals is ‘Strung Out’, and it has rinsing breakbeats, wild, pitch-bending tones and a dark jungle energy that makes it perfect for freakier late night sessions. 

This one gets remixed in style by Adesse Versions, the acclaimed British techno talent who runs his own label and relates his killer wares on others like Numbers and Local Talk. In his hands it is an expansive, tough house groove with punchy kicks and perfectly smeared synths bringing a great sense of soul to the table. 

This is the start of a sure to be exciting new label that pays homage to its local roots as well as to Jordan’s own well informed dance music understanding. As such, you should waste no time in getting behind it.
