I've been quite enamored by the music that has been coming out of the drum & bass world over the last few years; particularly the halftime sounds that cut the normal drum & bass tempo in half (from 170bpm to 85bpm), while exploring its rhythms and qualities at a more relaxed pace.

In music theory, a halftime groove is a rhythm that essentially expands one measure into two, thus making the song feel half-speed without changing the tempo.

As a sub-genre of drum & bass, "halftime" has within itself a virtually endless amount of variation, styles and moods, from beautiful blissed out downtempo to more aggressive dancefloor oriented frequencies.

Wherever your preference lands on that spectrum, there is a little something for everyone in this week's mix.

Performed live at Limitless: Virtual Ecstatic Dance on Sunday 3/15/2020.

In light of the unfolding pandemic, my wife and I decided to start a virtual ecstatic dance for all of us whom movement is a way of life. 

In a mere 12 hours from announcement to showtime, we received 104 ticket registrations and during the live event there was on average 45 people present for the entire 3.5 hour virtual event.

The feedback we've received has been nothing short of inspiring, and it is crystal clear that whether we're stuck at home or out and about, we have a deep need to dance. 

Challenging times call for creative measures. Thus, Limitless: Virtual Ecstatic Dance was borne and will continue every Sunday for the foreseeable future.
