Up next on Ant TC1’s Dispatch Recordings, Italian producers Ephyum & Invadhertz present a fresh, brand-new collaborative project that’s plucked straight out of the 174 top-drawer - the ‘Eidolon’ EP.

As expected, it’s stellar output all-round from the Italian masterminds; ‘Escapism’ is a cracking, flitting rollout of cascading percs, searing, sci-fi inspired reeses and fleeting, echoed vox - it’s like Dispatch meets Interstellar in a cluster of head-bobbing chaos. ‘Deadlock’ is effortlessly progressive and inherently robotic in its sublime minimalistic nature, whilst lead track ‘Eidolon’ (a spirit-image of a living or dead person; a shade or phantom look-alike of the human form in Ancient Greek literature) is aggressive, moody and ruthlessly intelligent, stoking a fire of prominence and ill-willed bassweight - disgusting. Finally, ‘Lantern’ brings just a touch of ease to proceedings, but not for long. Rippling, jagged synthetics and unfathomably evil background movements provide the perfect closing point for this standout collaboration, certainly one of the finest we’ve heard from the continent. We can’t wait to hear more.

DIS:TURBED's newly-founded Identity Records imprint kicks off with a huge bang, bringing through 4 of the Drum & Bass scene's most exciting talents for a dark, subterranean debut EP. Here, we see a selection of upcoming powerhouses go to town on the much-loved minimal sound, namely Recon, Half Cab, Medusa and Hickupz, the latter of which we recently dropped a collaborative Premiere / Free Download with, check that via our 'Free Downloads' playlist. Back to this EP, and we're treated to a masterclass in devilish sonics from Recon, who's kicked up a storm on 'Dark Places'. Already receiving heavy support from Bladerunner, Doc Scott, Nicky Blackmarket, DJ Hybrid, Benny V and more, there's no shortage of hype around BRUK's production and technical prowess, with the young producer pushing sonic boundaries to maximum effect. As the hype, schedule and promotional campaign for Toronto Is Broken’s forthcoming, genre-nullifying third album begins to ramp up and skyrocket, we’ve been treated to a real humdinger in the form of a new remix from the expressive, aggressive sonic minds of the exciting, upcoming SyRan duo. Taking the form of  the third single on the highly-promising, imminent ‘Clare’ album, the original cut saw YANA Music head-honcho Toronto Is Broken link up with with the emotive, illustrious singer/producer duo Deuce & Charger for a multi-faceted, wholly unique hybrid of Metalcore and Drum & Bass; a high-octane combination that we’re definitely keen to hear more of.

Then, in come SyRan. The gritty Peterborough-based pairing have seen a stratospheric rise as of late, implementing and showcasing a heralded style of impaling, cataclysmic Jungle-influenced 174 that has been tearing off heads left, right and centre. A permanent fixture in the sets of Andy C and many more, SyRan were quickly picked up by Andy’s legendary RAM Records imprint, first for 2019’s ‘Paradigm’ EP and then two widely-supported singles - ‘Telepathy’ and ‘For You’, which both dropped this year to great critical reception. 

All in all, this is a cracking, seminal meeting of three different sets of artistic qualities, but one that still moulds together perfectly, blending SyRan’s vintage-yet-modern Breakbeat aesthetics and droning, longitudinal bassweight movements with Toronto Is Broken and Deuce & Charger’s copiously brilliant original lick. We’ve got the exclusive OTW premiere for you to listen to here, and we’re delighted to reveal that the main man Toronto Is Broken will be joining us for a full, in-depth Focus interview feature in the near future, as well as jumping in the hotseat for our OTWMIX series.

Following a cracking launch EP that showcase their carefully-selected, finely-tuned roster in all it’s glory, exciting UKG startup Steppers Club return with their next celebrated, vintage tinge of nu-skool Garage hedonism. That first acclaimed VA offering, entitled First Steps, which featured label stalwarts Sensa, Oppidan, Minista, Sam Deeley and head-honcho Zefer, saw a metric tonne of support from across the underground, with premieres from us here at On The Wax, a track host from our friends over at The 3000 Network, an exclusive Instagram interview and feature with the guys over at Bass Hive and an in-depth appearance on Meltout Crew’s Reprezent Radio show. All in all, a stellar, groove-infused showing from an incredibly solid, norm-defying platform that’s still very much in its infancy.

Now, and epitomising everything we love about the current UKG revival, label boss Zefer presents his debut 2-tracker, returning to the fold after a slew of sick recent releases, the most recent of which was the locked, stocked and smoking ‘Praise Ya’ drop on Beastwang, who they themselves have overwhelmingly cemented their stance as a real platform to watch, serving up seriously special cuts from the likes of Champion, MPH, Tenshu, Earthnut, Kobe JT, Higgo, Zero and plenty more. 

As its basis, this new 2-track offering from the Steppers Club bossman is uplifting, inherently joyful, sunshine-etched and positively teeming with refined musicality, all facets we instantly look for from both artist and label. Wonderfully adept at working with both original vocalists and carefully-selected, pinpoint samples, the first track sees Zefer utilise the simply gorgeous, velvet vocals of Charlotte Meldrum on ‘Let Me Know’, a 4x4 NUKG lick that provides a sharp glance in that vintage back-mirror, whilst also hammering down that modern aesthetic. It’s stunning writing all round, from both Zefer and Meldrum, with all that flittering, patterned instrumentation providing a gleeful backdrop for the vocals to go to town on.  Has UKG ever sounded so good?

The B-side, ‘Sugar N’ Spice’, is slightly more dancefloor-focused, but it still retains every bit of rhythm, artistic prowess and gilded marksmanship of the aforementioned first track, and we’re delighted to be exclusively hosting it here at OTW. Whereas Meldrum’s vocal hooks take centre-stage on ‘Let Me Know’, Zefer’s keen ear for sampling allows his mesmerising production to full roll out here, experimenting with a plethora of instruments and percs, showcasing his funky aptitude in all its glory. Overall, another stellar showing from both Steppers Club and Zefer - long may it continue.

DIS:TURBED's high-flying Identity Records imprint continues to go from strength to strength with their latest release, which again exceeds all high expectations for the ascending grassroots platform. Proving his strong penchant for solid A&R, the label boss has locked in Identity stalwart Recon, a fresh collaboration from newcomers Jenks & Esoro, some real submerged darkness from Melodrama and a voyage into the night from Resslek - we've had the pleasure of premiering the latter. As per, the  EP will be available for free very soon via the Identity Soundcloud, which has surged in popularity since its inception just a short time ago. Resslek's 'Krikle' is perhaps his finest work yet, writhing, chomping and thumping its way through its low slung, no-nonsense 4-minute duration. This, as well as his recent well-supported productions, has made Resslek one of the most exciting new names on the Drum & Bass circuit.

Here at OTW, the thing we love most is shining a light on our favourite music from 140-170, and we always, always relish the opportunity to dip into some rave music. And, if there's one thing for sure, there's not many labels putting out better music of this ilk than Trax Haven at present. Following up their latest drop, DV60's scrumptiously bouncy edit of Sinistarr & Doctor Jeep's 'Red Stripe' (available now), they welcome label favourite Samurai Breaks and the mega-talented Origin to the imprint. There's a total of 5 tracks showcased on the Extensiv Hype, and there's some proper extensive hype bizness going on here; these will definitely make your glasses steam up. 'Drop That' is barbarically brilliant as per, integrating all those rave-style, ludicrous breakbeats and prancing shuffles that make this genre, these artists and this label so special.
