For the tenth Phreak Power Podcast, Shantih recorded a 42-track DJ Mix entitled “American Idle” while under quarantine in Philadelphia. It is the second installment of his social distancing series, following up his recent mixtape, “American Fever Dream.”

With “American Idle,” Shantih injects the quarantine dance scene with a 42-track booster, bridging the gap between funky downtempo beats and acid-drenched dancefloor treats. The mix gradually builds in tempo from 95bpm to 125bpm over the course of 129 minutes.

We may be stuck at home in lockdown, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still get down!

Created amidst a global pandemic and nationwide civil unrest,  “Good Mourning, America!” is both a requiem and a call for action. It is the first among a series of mixtapes dubbed, “The Elegy Tapes,” with which Shantih aims to console and to inspire.

“Good Mourning, America!” contains an eclectic selection of ambient, art rock, free jazz, and world music by contemporary artists — such as Four Tet, David August, Dave Harrington, Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith, Leon Vynehall, and Nicolas Jaar — as well as older pioneers such as Brian Eno, Laraaji, the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Slowdive, and Talk Talk.
