2024 Proton Premieres

A welcome returnee to the Proton Music fold, Savvas Karabinos, has been a regular on the flagship label since a 2019 debut remixing Turkish star, Erdi Irmak. Two further remixes for Rick Pier O'Neil followed in 2020 and 2021 before a debut original EP appeared in the shape of February 2022's 3-track "Reminisce" including remixes from RIGOONI and Vridian. A second EP followed a year later with "Crescent Moon" as another trio of powerful original tracks were paired with remixes from Juan Deminicis and Andrea Cassino.

Now returning with another musical triptych, "Craving Spaces" is redolent in the rich sonic landscapes of textured pads and dreamy melodic passages. Underpinned by a heavy beat and huge sub-bassline, haunting motifs sit atop creating an air of elegant juxtaposition against the hypnotic rhythm. As the seasons shift from late summer to another Northern Hemisphere autumn, "Falling Leaves" enthrals with its subtle melancholy of light melodic touches following the narrative of its predecessor. Immaculately cadenced synths are used to develop a swathe of cascading musical ideas while textured pads create a vivid sonic landscape. A driving beat and ticking percussive hi-hats add to the picture in another moment of rare beauty. The final track sees "We Are" immediately carry on the mantle of driving rhythmic force combined with perfectly placed deep house chords and floating chord progressions that swim across the stereo spectrum. The delayed vocal effects and vibrant arpeggio of a post-breakdown second half creates a dynamic and powerful track.

An Australian artist with an impressive reputation within the underground dance fraternity, Patrick Carrera has been at the vanguard of progressive, organic and deep house sounds for over a decade. Through his MUUI moniker, over 500 production credits thus chart a path across such esteemed imprints as Sudbeat Music, Global Underground and Eelke Klein's Outside The Box, plus a further 300 credits on his own Here Now. A trio of remixes for Proton Music dating back to 2014 and a reworking of Kobana, have seen subsequent rerubs of Imran Khan and Mark Slee in 2019 and 2020 as MUUI returns for the first time in over 4 years. Reimagining "Falling Leaves", MUUI's skill is create a silky-smooth version that retains the laid-back melodic groove of the original while creating a rhythmic foundation that retreats elegantly into the mix in the early phases, while a deep and resonant kick drives the track forwards. Making full use of Savvas' original components a raft of additional production evolves in the second half including a sumptuous twinkling arpeggio and vocal touches, creating a triumphant remix.

Based in the capital of the Ontario province, Beije have carved out an impressive niche from their Toronto home. Able to point to a double century of production credits on the likes of Harabe, Café De Anatolia and The Purr, a pair of Proton Music remixes for Juan Deminicis and Lisandro in 2022, paved the way for 2024's remarkable "Ardere" EP in August 2024". The 3-track original EP was chock-full of masterful production technique and trademark melodic touch, showcasing the Canadian pair's inimitable style and craft. Now returning for a third remix, Beije have captured a delicate dancefloor groove with the muted and cadenced chords that fill the melodic spaces of the original. Moreover, the addition of diaphanous and free-flowing piano phrasing at the mind-point and through the third movement adds a subtle and delicate touch to proceedings, completed further by subtle vocal effects. The result is another stunning Beije production.

With the addition of immaculate remixes from MUUI and Beije, Savvas has found that "Craving Spaces" is the perfect way to showcase a trio of exceptional new original works.

Craving Spaces

With a slew of releases across Proton labels, Lanvary returns to Proton Music with a wonderful original offering in the shape of "Cercanias". From a trio of Particles releases between 2015-17 "Micromegas", "Penumbra" and "Leviathan" showcased Lanvary's evolving production talent. Graduating onto the flagship label, 2017's "Venus" and 2019's "Everything You Feel" followed as we welcome the Moldovan back after a 3-year hiatus. The title track is a typically bold and vibrant affair as an urgent percussive and bass groove take control, sublimely aided by ethereal pads and a shimmering motif that pans the stereo spectrum. Building into the second half, the flowing groove picks up the pace once more with gusto and aplomb. The deeper and darker vibe of "Palindrome" continues the rich bassline narrative while a deep kick and offbeat hi-hat pattern provide a metronomic tempo. Subtle effects add to the character while an array of textured pads and delayed lead are used to magical and dynamic effect in the second half. The final track is characterised by a rolling progressive house groove and head-shaking bassline pattern. A sharper lead line flits in and out in filtered phrasing as fizzing effects and counterpoint melodies add depth before a spoken vocal creates a slightly uneasy and edgy feel to proceedings.

Alex O'Rion needs little introduction to Proton fan base. From his century of early production credits on Black Hole to his gorgeous "Nostalgia" album on his own Solis Records earlier in 2024, the Dutch artist has consistently risen a high tide of success. Further work for Balance Music, Sudbeat Music and GMJ& Matter's Meanwhile has only confirmed Alex's status. A pair of remixes for Juan Deminicis in 2021 and Michael A in mid-2024 marked a high-profile entrance onto the Proton Music catalogues, as a third now sees Alex O'Rion deliver a powerful interpretation of "Cercanias". Keeping the same percussive intensity as the original, Alex's skill is to create a beautifully and masterfully produced slice of progressive heaven. With its tight and immaculate percussive groove, the use of Lanvary's original components have been transformed into vibrant and innovative new patterns with elegant melodic touches, before a powerhouse new bassline is introduced at the mid-point to drive the remix through the second half creating a cool dancefloor destroyer.

The final remix sees the legendary figure of Matias Chilano take centre stage. A veteran of some 400 production credits dating back to 2008, the Argentinean has been a staple of LuPS Records, Balkan Connection and Hernan Cattaneo's Sudbeat Music. A trio of remixes on Proton Music since 2019 has seen reinterpretations of Huminal, Erdi Irmak and Sebastian Sellares as Matias Chilano now returns with a fourth. Taking on "Tender", Matias has produced a trademark smooth groove that has captured the themes of the Lanvary original. Adding a host of additional production work, beautiful new and evocative melodies can be heard, revealing themselves fully at the breakdown and cascading into the second half. The spoken vocal phrase is also another reminder of the track's origins as the effects-laden treatment adds another layer of aural intrigue.

Criss-crossing the underground with another original EP of power and precision, Lanvary's "Cercanias" is further enhanced with remixes from Alex O'Rion and Matias Chilano.

As part of Nick Muir's superlative "All One Word" release, we now include a second EP with a pair of outstanding remixes from UK dance music royalty, Trilucid.

Quickly becoming one of Proton's top-selling artists, Trilucid have been responsible for a host of 24-carat gold releases. Regulars on the likes of Black Hole, Colorize and Paul Thomas' UV, the UK duo have been regulars on Proton Music since a 2019 remix of Stas Drive saw a collaboration with Phil Martyn. Going on to release a quartet of original EPs between 2019 and 2023, "Glint", "Astral", "The Loved Are Never Lost" and "A Moment / Stratos" have showcased immaculate production skill and unrivalled talent.

Providing two separate reworkings of "All One Word", the ‘Midnight Mix' is a powerful variation that is the perfect companion to Nick Muir's dance music roots. A grooved bassline and house chords add club-friendly verve while a vocal sample provides a further retro vibe. Making innovative use of the original components, not least in the extended bass sequence with its roots in Muir's track, the resultant remix is an Ibiza anthem in waiting.

With its deeper, more considered sound, the "2 AM Mix" is thrust forward with a chest-thumping kick and driving 16th note bass pattern. Shakers and percussive vitality add further intensity while beautifully orchestrated pads and shimmering arpeggio add emotion and a classy touch. Hitting dancefloor heights with ease, Trilucid once again demonstrate their wide-ranging talent with a beautifully crafted affair that does nothing to diminish a growing reputation.

With the final say, Trilucid hit the mark once again with Nick Muir's "All One Word".

When Proton Music's friends at Dear Deer contacted us about an exciting new project, collaboration between Anton Ishutin and Leusin provided a high quality "Presence", further extended by remixes from the talented artist roster from both stables.

Anton Ishutin has risen rapidly in deep house and indie dance circles. A polished sound has seen work feature heavily on the Dear Deer imprint since 2013's pairing with Anturage produced the "Drunk Girl" EP. Since then, a clutch of other releases and remixes have surfaced while further work for Pepper Cat, Four Peas and Nuevadeep have cemented a reputation built upon support from the likes of M.A.N.D.Y., Kolombo and Dinka. Joining forces, on this occasion, with the vocal talents of Leusin, "Presence" is a sublime journey through striking percussive beats and haunting vocals that carry a blend of textured pads, emotive melodies and strong bass line to mesmerising effect. With an effortless use of space, "Presence" and its accompanying dub are works of class.

Tim Embliss needs no introduction to the Proton Music faithful. A connoisseur of the electronic music scene since 2007's debut and an important figure in the progressive breaks sound so prevalent in the mid 2000s, Embliss' sound has matured and evolved in recent years to become extremely well respected and supported by labels and peers alike. Armada, Anjunadeep and Silk Royal have all played host to Embliss' considerable talents as his work has seen support form Jaytech, Matt Darey and fellow countryman, Eelke Kleijn. A regular on Proton Music since 2008, it was 2013's "Stronghold" EP that marked a watershed moment in Embliss' recent production career with a shift to a deeper, much sought after sound. Extending his skill set into the deep house arena, the Embliss remixes of "Presence" demonstrate an individual with passion and talent as a huge bass line provides a strong anchor for subtle percussive hats and striking reverb-soaked lead to play off the vocal arrangement of the original. A sure and classy touch from Embliss has provided "Presence" with a gold standard rework.

Russian star, Andrea Kinly has formerly shone behind the scenes with AandR for Tvardovsky owned, Stereo Paradise. Currently head of Maywin, Kinly's own incipient production career began with 2013's "Internal Confusion" EP with AudioAndrew for Deadfunk Music. Going on to represent Funkpony and Stop!Waiting, Kinly now follows up a further collaboration with AudioAndrew for 2014's "Dear Deer Friends, Vol. 2" compilation as "Dreams" were realised. Taking on "Presence", the Kinly remix retains Leusin's haunting vocals and the enveloping sounds of the original, backed by a muted kick drum that expands to include metronomic house beats as the track evolves. Additional production material forces its way to the fore in incongruous juxtaposition as arpeggio and harmonica effect provide a powerful edge. The stripped back dub version then makes its play with a series of textures and effects in organic fashion.

Six tracks of perfect symmetry combining the remix talents of Embliss and Kinly have provided Anton Ishutin and Leuisn with a strong "Presence" from which success is assured.

Named after a deserted city in ancient Guatemala, “Mayan Tikal” invokes pulsating percussion, emphatic vox and subtle guitar strums.
