Demo Tapes is a protest music project inspired by the NW region's sound archives. Young musicians at More Music, Collective Encounters and Brighter Sound listened to newly-digitised sound archives and wrote new music in response to the archives. This podcast takes you behind the scenes from the first workshops to the final gig. Supported by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

We spent 2 weeks learning, making, trying new things, eating subway in order to create a piece of music. This show demonstrates the diversity in each individual"s sound world but also our collective spirit in our love of tunes.

This show will be a selection of tracks from albums I’ve been listening to recently. Hip-hop interludes, 00s R&B, contemporary Jazz, and spoken word. Expect the sounds of Black Star, Lil’ Mo, Yussef Days, and Zap Mama.

For this month’s bedtime story drowzee will be exploring the (rather extensive) back catalogue of French pop-rap superstar Jul. From humble roots recording songs in his flat in Marseille over self-produced GarageBand beats, Jul is now the biggest selling French rapper of all time, despite having remained independent throughout his career. Musically his amateurish, DIY productions have become his signature sound, blending cheap midi harps with stock Euro-dance drum hits, brought to life by the North African melodic and rhythmic influences of his home city. Jul is also a serious rapper and lyricist, his extended freestyles on France’s premier rap radio station SkyRock having garnered millions of views on YouTube. Tune in for a carefully curated selection of his best tracks, from big hits to forgotten mixtape cuts, courtesy of drowzee.

Taking its name from the record label, The Paper Air Waves show is a melting pot of music from all over the world. African funk, Scottish folk, London bass, Detroit Soul, Californian vaporwave, Asian field recordings, Thai Funk to the deepest disco and more curve balls than you can shake a totem pole at. Hosted by Paper Recordings’ Ben Davis, its a wide-eyed dig into the deepest and furthest flung corners of sound and music.

It might seem strange that Trent Reznor, the founding and only consistent member of American industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails, has ended up spending the latter part of his career scoring blockbuster movies like Gone Girl and The Social Network. But those more familiar with the band’s work will know that his taste for the cinematic has always been on show in his music. This month’s Naptime sees drowzee exploring the artist’s back catalogue, skipping the vocal-led heavy rock singles in favor of the instrumental album cuts which foreshadow this transition. Expect anxious ambient noise, melancholic piano motifs, pounding industrial rave and more.

The track ‘At The Heart Of It All’ isn’t actually a Nine Inch Nails song; Aphex Twin was commissioned to do a remix, didn’t listen to the track he was supposed to remix and sent them 'At The Heart Of It All' instead, which ended up being included on 'Further Down The Spiral'.

Having met hollowlight at a party a few months ago where they bonded over their mutual love of British rock band Placebo, this month’s Naptime sees drowzee invite the Manchester based producer, rapper and DJ to collaborate on an hour long deep dive into the outfit’s back-catalogue. Not just packing the show out with the big singles, Placebo’s full artistic range is on display here, with the raw, punky hedonism of their early outings sitting comfortably alongside more polished, emotional ballads as well as dissonant, experimental album cuts and heavily electronic B-sides. These 60 minutes should provide a more than adequate introduction for new listeners, and are guaranteed to inspire nostalgia and unlock hidden memories in those who, like the show’s presenters, have fond memories of listening to the band growing up.

This project was funded by the Big Lottery Fund - Awards for All.

From music to literature, from comedy to technology, we have the antidote to your isolation, the cure to your boredom. AUDIOForm is a 12-week project, kicked off by Annie Mac and delivered by Reform Radio, that provides room to breathe and a gateway into the wonderful world of podcasting and audio production.

Masks Off, Breathe Out showcases six brand-new short productions created by our weird and eclectic bunch of sound geeks. Each team was given just 72 hours to come up with their very own innovative podcast, from concept to execution.
