Since i first heard Vivaldi´s Spring in the version of Max i fell in love with his interpretation so deeply, i always knew i had to use it at least once in one of my podcasts im compiling once in a while. It got so stuck in my head that one night last summer i dreamt about listening a new electronic version in a fictional place and i remember i really wanted to know who was the artist that did another take on this beautiful piece. After i woke up i noticed nobody yet had done it and it became clear that it would be myself doing the new version. Vivaldi´s 4 seasons is something special since i was a young child as it is the vinyl we listened to every christmas while we were waiting to receive our gifts. Now i feel the circle closes after all these years and i hope my version is doing the in this case 2 Originals a favour and giving these masterpieces another modern twist people can enjoy and get in touch with classical & electronic music.

This is i guess by far the track i worked the longest on the full EP. There was about 10 versions before i finally decided to programm all my knobs and faders and record it live.
This take was at least the most impulsive & spontanious take of all version before. So i decided to put the live take out instead af all prearranged ones before as i directly felt connected to the flow of this recording. i hope u can feel it :)

This Set was recorded at my Session in April @ Bergwacht. Its a live take and remastered for ur consideration. I chose the first part of the 140 minutes set and might bring up the rougher side of my reportoire later in another set. As additional feature it includes 2 or 3 of my new yet unreleased tracks. This morgen.ep is musically our most ingenious release produced by our family’s newest addition Olaf Stuut. His originals are all strong main characters in this 3-track story with a riveting retouch by Ryan Davis and a deep adaptation by Some Chemistry.

Honoured to have an inspirational artist like Ryan Davis on the remix, he added great value to the ep. He introduces a strong drive and some mysterious elements in the beginning of his remix. When it looks like the dark is taking over halfway, Ryan reveals his dreamy trademark and brings back the harmony of Olaf’s original idea.

When Plastikman´s - "Ex" was released i got drawn to the track EXpand of the Album. When i heard it for a couple of times i noticed that there could be added something more to it and some track directly popped up in my head that i, till that moment, actually wanted to use as an intro song for my sets. That way i ended up having Gaiser´s "Way Out" in Ableton together with EXpand. The work didn't proceeded that easy as i noticed there will be a lot of detailed things to take care of as i also wanted to keep the live vibe of Richie´s track. With a lot of fine tuning i ended up adding some rhythmic elements to it myself and the planned mash up became a complex rework. As there already was some remixes around "EX" released i thought it might be the right time to present what did came out of some hours of work to have my own unique version of those to tracks.

This years first podcast needed a bit more time than expected, though i guess the time was worth to wait. I got 5 songs of mine in this, 4 of them unreleased and a special live version of Calendula which i originally produced with Microtrauma. Also in here is the premiere of the upcoming main track "Sail" taken from the next Klangwelt release by 1979 and the premiere of We are all Astronauts "This Too Shall Pass". Several Edits and cuts of the other songs included are waiting to unfold to your ears during this journey from listening to club tunes. Commencing the 10th anniversary celebrations with a free compilation entitled Erased Tapes Collection VIII, Erased Tapes also welcomes the iconic Penguin Cafe to the roster amongst tracks from new signing Daniel Brandt (of Brandt Brauer Frick) and Peter Broderick’s duo project Allred & Broderick. It also includes recent compositions by Rival Consoles, A Winged Victory For The Sullen, Ben Lukas Boysen, Douglas Dare and Immix Ensemble & Vessel, as well as a previously unreleased soundcloud.com/ryan-davis remix of Erased Tapes stalwarts Ólafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm which was recently favoured by Aphex Twin and an exclusive edit of Woodkid & Nils Frahm’s score for JR’s Ellis, with spoken words by Robert De Niro.

The Story before: 

When i heard the Album Trance Frendz of Olafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm for the first time, i directly felt a connection to the song they both started together at 00:26. The fine textures of the synths and the subtle evolution in this one-taker brought up the idea of having a version i can play in the late nights on the dance floor but which also would work perfectly for listening in your comfort zone. 

The drums and way of how the remix should flow came naturally and as i had the song standing i layered the original stems here and there to have the track playing in some kind of canon. As i was very happy with my personal version i sent it out to https://soundcloud.com/olafur-arnalds, https://soundcloud.com/erasedtapes & the rest of the participants of this project. Gladly Olafur picked up my remix and forwarded the song to the label which lead to having this unofficial version approved to share with you out there. I hope you like it and thanks to Erased Tapes and all involved for the support :)

In this years podcast it is all about bringing together melodic electronic music genres i am into. From ambient classical over broken beats and band infused drums to deep and energetic house tunes, analog techno infused sounds and field recording noises. 

The Story of the mix can be imagined as a day and night theme. First getting out of the bed with Max Richter´s great Vivaldi recomposition beginning the day with moody downtempo music and catching up speed during the hours into the afternoon. From there you start to get ready for the evening, meet up with some friends while the mix is changing to a stronger drive transporting you into the night where you are dancing in the club with your friends to energetic tunes and let yourself go till the morning sun rises. The last part is escorting you get back on your way home to fall asleep happily in your bed dreaming about the memories you just experienced. The good thing is you can experience this Mix as many times as you want.

As usual i put a lot of effort in this mix and edited, fused or rearranged songs as well as adding new melodies or drum patterns. Of course you can make your own story with the music and get lost in the 
synergy of the great works by all the artists that made this mix possible with their music.

Ryan Davis has been recording music since 2006.
He has produced for Manual Music, Bedrock, Proton, Areal, Archipel, BackHome, Wunderbar and many other labels. Recently he has released two EPs with Traum.   One can say without doubt, Ryan is a real artist and a tastemaker.
Ryan has released on many labels worldwide, not always on big labels… though that never was of prior importance to him, but it was his quality that has earned him an international audience and standing.
  Ryan always went the way which seemed natural to him and has released innovative melodic techno worldwide. But it has been also a battle with established DJ structures which led to the founding of his own label Back Home where he was able to feature new talents that shared his interest in the genre of melodic soulful music.
  His release in 2007 on Klang Gymnastik  the "Transformer EP" then directly put him on the map with a strong selling vinyl and lead to the "Zyrial Soundfood EP" in 2009 on the Dutch label Manual which can be considered his break through.
The track from the EP "Spicyal Sound" was played and supported by Miss Kittin and The Hacker, Boyz Noise. Ivan Smagghe licensed the track for his "Live At Robert Johnson Volume 3" compilation and Depeche Mode’s Martin Gore played "Spicyal Sound" before all of their gigs during their "Sound Of The Universe" tour. All this lead to gigs in Paris, Brussels, Amsterdam, London and Barcelona and to a very international standing.
  In 2010 another huge track evolved with "Zodiac". The track was charted and played by Dominik Eulberg as well as by Ellen Allien at Time Warp which consolidated his reputation as a brilliant composer.
  Remixes by Max Cooper for him as well as him remixing Max Cooper’s track "Enveloped" for Traum actually put him in contact with our label.
Two EP releases followed on Traum and it was the „Routes of Life EP“ (Traum V133) that created an even bigger following and lead to the idea of finally recording this album.
The album consists out of 11 never released tracks that highlight his talent to keep away from preset formulas and turn toward musical compositions.

I sat down at night improvising a small piece with the idea of creating something spontaneous. I recorded the chords within 1 hour and added strings and textures the next day. Piano Day of 2019 inspired me to use the piano which is the perfect instrument to catch ideas like this. Let me know what you think!

My second work for Robot´s label is a remix for one of his own 'Crystal Grid' 
I chopped, reversed and pitched the original samples glueing them together again as a 3 part cinematic mini composition. Starting with ambiences and subtle rhythms that  feel like you listen to your inner body while your journey goes further and turns your attention to  your near surroundings as the piano and beats get more defined. The third act is opening up an ocean of sounds filling your mind from every source of sound you can absorb till the wave of excitement coincides back to your inner self. 

The whole ep includes many more great takes on Robot´s music by Daniel Brandt, Chi Thanh and Jan Wagner and new material that hasnt made it onto his album.

It has been a while for me releasing a mixtape. Because many of you asking for this i finally took some time and compiled the 19CAST.

This mixtape is all about which have been my favorite pieces of music i liked to play out in 2019. So in some way it is kind of a reminiscence of the last year and some bits and bites i repeatedly played to people who came to see me perform. As usual i did a lot of editing and also changed and recombined songs over and over to find the right balance of this mixtape as you might listen to it many times. 

This time i leave it to you which fantasy or story you might visualize whilst listening. Im happy to hear some of those and hope you enjoy the mix.

We welcome Ryan Davis, an artist who should have released with us a long time ago, since his music is very close to what Traum has released over the period of 12 years.
Ryan is great musician and totally dedicated to the melodic side of dance music, with compositional skill and courage that is rare in dance music today. Ryan has recorded for various labels but keeps a low profile for himself which makes him a true candidate for Traum also in the future.
The opening track “Roads” is a track of sheer extravagance. It combines different musical genres in in a very skillful way and makes an unmistakable statement towards an artistic composition.
You will find so many influences going on here that it is hard to pin down weather it is a romantic or cinematic track or even a strong club epic. It works on all levels and that is a quality Ryan Davis has cultivated over a long period.
Lush and deep  passages alternate with energetic ones, using hi tech technology to make it a firework or rather a serpentine of delicate stunts altogether. “Loophole” is wise enough to dedicate itself to a more track like piece of music.
But please do not make judgements too quick... in the course of it’s development it attracts colourful, melodic elements and takes them in to a never-ending beat.
Step by step Ryan Davis adds long-armed synth stretches and the lushness of “fragile” electronic music. “Sideways”, the third track is by far the most “free minded spirit” on the release.
Again equally beautifully crafted and refurbished to feel fresh and new as all of these tracks... Davis here suggest rather than dedicates images that seem to drown in a ”see of sound”.
This includes “slow motion” or “stand still” passages and a general “fantastic” approach rather than a „club head turner“. Roland M. Dills remix is bassline monster of a muscular beat track that puts him next to artists such as Radioslave & Dettmann. New Traum artist from the UK Morris Cowan has taken on “Sideways” and instantly felt he could do a interpretation it in his style. The result is a tight new interpretation based on an arrangement which takes in the coolness of dub step but also pays tribute to the seriousness of the original.
We think Morris Cowan has done great and have signed him for a full length album on Traum´s new imprint Zaubernuss!
