SUNANDBASS Recordings is proud to welcome the legendary Bailey for his first-ever solo EP, Echoes from the Midwest captures the deep musical heritage and the ongoing dialogue between Drum & Bass and its American influences. The EP reflects the fusion of British Drum & Bass with the foundational sounds of Detroit techno and Chicago house, creating a sonic bridge that spans the Atlantic.

A vibrant testament to the rich legacy of the Chicago house scene can be found in Trax 312, an electrifying track from the EP. Bailey breathes new life into the iconic bassline originally crafted by the legendary Mr. Fingers in "Can You Feel It," which first shook the foundations of Trax Records in Chicago. Named after the city's area code, 312, this track masterfully fuses nostalgic sounds with contemporary techniques. It's a thrilling celebration of creativity born from the challenges of economic decline, inviting listeners to dive into a dynamic exploration of the present.

Bailey’s ability to push boundaries while honouring the past sets him apart. Since his recruitment by Kemistry & Storm for Goldie’s iconic Blue Note Sunday Sessions in 1995, he has continued to champion innovative sounds and pave a new path for drum and bass while staying true to the roots. Whether behind the decks, on the airwaves, or in the digital space, his passion for music remains as strong as ever.

With Echoes from the Midwest, Bailey delivers an EP deeply rooted in his love for Detroit techno and Chicago house, seamlessly blending history and innovation. SUNANDBASS Recordings presents Villanova / Glen Ridge, the latest release from ArpXP and Adred, out April 25th. Following Laws of Change (2024), ArpXP returns with a two-track single that embodies the immersive, physical experience of drum & bass.

ArpXP, aka Simone Deiana, collaborates with Adred, bridging over 6,800 km to create a globally shared sonic journey. They began tracks in their respective hometowns—Cagliari, Sardinia (Villanova) and Glen Ridge, New Jersey (Glen Ridge)—before exchanging them to blend their unique styles.

"Villanova" captures the warmth and pulse of ArpXP's coastal roots, transforming city textures into a bass-driven, sunlit atmosphere. Meanwhile, "Glen Ridge" reflects the rhythmic flow of Adred’s surroundings, mirroring the crowd’s collective energy on the dancefloor.

SUNANDBASS Recordings continues to push drum & bass boundaries, fostering connection through music that dissolves borders and unites listeners in pure, shared movement.

ArpXP & Adred - Villanova / Glen Ridge

SUNANDBASS Recordings proudly presents it’s next release on the label: The Soul Marauders EP from T.R.A.C. & Zar. This 4-track project showcases the duo’s shared love and influence of Hip Hop and RnB. Over the past few years, T.R.A.C. and Zar have been collaborating on music, and this EP stands as a true testament to their musical chemistry, sparked when they first met while performing in Sardinia. Each track brings a unique vibe and energy, setting a vibrant tone for the summer ahead.

The opening track, Plans, is heavily inspired by the classic Native Tongues sound from New York in the late ’90s — an ode to A Tribe Called Quest that sets the tone for the entire project. Next comes Like a Geenie, featuring the soulful vocals of the incredible Collette Warren. Playful and heartfelt, the track takes the listener on a fun, soulful journey.Into This follows, featuring rising star Luke Truth. It dives deep into early RnB influences and delivers a rich, emotional sound that complements the EP’s themes.Closing the project is Artful Ride, a jazz-infused piece that transports the listener to the warm ambience of an old jazz bar, where T.R.A.C. reflects on his journey — a glass of whisky in hand.

We’re proud to share this project and offer a space for this unique collaboration from New York to Manchester, UK. The last set of the week in our „first timers“ series comes from Bailey. It actually isn’t the set he played back in 2004 at the first official SUNANDBASS edition (although it had been recorded by Drum&Bass Arena for World of Drum&Bass - they might even have it in their archives). It’s Bailey’s interpretation of the SUNANDBASS classics, and it’s beautiful. 

Bailey is one of four artists that have played at every SUNANDBASS edition - the others are crew members ArpXP, Soulsurfer and Delicat. That’s what makes him an „all timer“ for us. He usually stays for the whole week plus some additional days before and after the festival. His B2B with A Sides (also known as Baysides) at La Posta in the town center starts and closes the week. It’s the first time in 17 summers we didn’t meet, at least we have this contribution from him. He is such a versatile DJ, always ready to go (hey B, we need a DJ and presenter over here…), and he can play across a wide ranges of styles suited to the situation. We’re lucky to have him as part of the core family!
