Extinction! is a 12 minute comic book suite of beats; a collage of pop culture staged as the soundtrack for the dance party at the dawn of the apocalypse! 

The good guys are fighting for the future of existence itself: Greta Thunberg:  our hero; Kurt Vonnegut:  the prophet; and Marvin Gaye: the voice of love - or the muse of distraction???? Gotham crumbles as it's people are lulled into a self-indulgent stupor by the Spirit of Consumerism-Incarnate. Will our heroes' songs awaken the people to overcome the evils of climate change, classism, and war - or is the fate of the world doomed?

Juxtaposing sounds of horror, protest, and pop, this suite of music came together over the course of 3 weeks, using samples chopped from top 40s hits, blockbuster movies, and viral videos. The main instruments were a Yamaha DD65 drum machine from Goodwill, a half broken MicroKorgXL synth, and a Korg CR-4 track cassette recorder and multi-effects unit (recently deceased). Extinction! is the first installment of Safe Jazz's "Frozen Pizza" collection: quick beats made with cheap ingredients, cooked up in short order for an easy listening snack.
