Thoughtography - WANNABEURLOVER

More sample experimentation, based off the drum / bridge break from When Girls Telephone Boys off Deftones' 2003 self-titled record, which has always been a favorite. Ended up adding layers of noise and distortion and discordant alarm synths ala Meshuggah's Future Breed Machine and cutting up the base sample a bunch and then brickwalling the whole thing. It's borderline unlistenable now, but I ran out of juice and figured it was a strange little anomaly to my incessant need to have everything be super clean and tidy.

Thoughtography - Something's Wrong With You (demo)

Another slowed 'n' reverbed thing. Pretty basic trap / wave beat with some ambient samples, tried a little phonk style rap sample too, probably would have been better if I had used a memphis sample like everyone else. As with Vigorish, I bounced out from the master and then stretched and distorted.

Thoughtography - District (demo)

Another sample experiment, more akin to an Avalanches / Prodigy style plunderphonics type thing. No synths in this one, all the sounds and breaks are cut up bits and chops from a variety of sources, Pure Moods, Dr. Dre, The Books and others. Mostly based on a reversed piano sample from Radiohead's rejected Spectre theme, thus the name.

This was a fun little experiment based on an audio clip that was floating around TikTok a few years ago (don't you want to become a cult leader?)

I added a number of similar sine wave synth wave patches that matched the same timbre to the original sample, but I wasn't able to clean up the original or get the new patches to match the old tape sound so I just degraded and mashed the entire thing down so it all sorta just sounded bad and then I just gave up.

I probably could have come up with a more imaginative name though...

Thoughtography - Cult Leader (demo)

Synth experiment that started with simple plucks / Flume style stabs and then moved into more of a ostinato chord thing. Also playing with random noise artifact samples and that nice little True Detective clip. 

Also one of the first times I had done full track destructive effects, including stretching and distortion which I also explored on District. I bounced the entire track out including mastering EQ with distortion and then stretched out the whole render, both lowering the key and rolling off the highs (slowed n reverbed as the kids say)

Little Comets - Bridge Burn (Thoughtography Remix)

Basic lofi stuff, this was originally based off of trying to chop up samples out of Trent Reznor's Vietnam soundtrack. I lost interest after a while and the mixing shows, the master is clipping all the way through, but I always wanted an excuse to put in that clip from Peaky Blinders where Alfie talks to the Russians about his mother

Thoughtography - Solomons (demo)

Mostly a  synth / patch exercise but also based on a random drum break from somewhere on the internet. The little skippy reverbed ostinato bit is a heavily processed and filtered noise patch from a random generator that I filtered to isolate a single frequency and then resampled / refiltered multiple times until I got a usable tone that I could load it into a sampler channel and play like an instrument. Gave a cool character, but essentially it's just a noisy sine wave.
