Took an old field recording (https://soundcloud.com/timbamber/night-trio-for-electrical?in=timbamber/sets/miniatures) and basically threw everything at it! Randomly deleted some elements detected by Melodyne using percussive and polyphonic algorithms, then lots of de-humming, de-crackle/clicking (also subtracting everything but clicks), de-noising, extracting harmonics, etc in RX and Audition, then divided it into freq bands and did lots of rhythmic amplitude deletion with LFOs (tremolo, essentially) in Iris2 and then a bit more cutting and deleting with the lasso in Audition. It is what it is! :)

Play What's Not There [disquiet0330]

Took this file as my sound source, it being a rather poor attempt at a rupturing pipe with a resonant hit and a burst of steam! But taking the concept at least of a metal pipe as the 'source', I cheekily used a few other metal pipe files from my fx library as well.. obviously it all needed some reverb, so I went for metallic / spring verbs there too...

Lots and lots of layers of a metal pipe being filed make up the sustained sections..

At one point the mass was so great that my computer started jittering, and that glitchy audio was then blended back into the original too :)

69 Large Steam Pipe  Rupture Impact [disquiet0334]

Nice to have a prod to visit this.. I've always wanted to make more glitchy stuff. 

I had a quick wikipedia, as my usual starting point for inspiration.. I like the idea of the glitch as an 'unexpected input'... a 'transient fault'... or "such a minute change in voltage that no fuse could protect against it" - although I wouldn't want to apply that concept to my Bus Limiter :)

Love the no-input mixer stuff and malfunctioning hardware too, but I don't have any :( so this is a software homage.. I played around with a paulstretch-ed field recording of some city ambience in Iris2, adding lots of LFOs with sharp attack or pinch curves all working upon each other and on different effects, mainly pitch and distortion but also chorus, gain, HP filter and reverb... a couple of passes and then a little editing.
