Patrick Topping recruits Hyyken for ‘So Good To Me’ on Trick this July. 

Irish DJ/producer Hyyken has been banging out infectious bends of garage, baseline, house and techno on labels like Fresh Take Records, Tech City and Trick, where he last appeared with 'Acid Riddim' in April. His club-friendly style is robust and built to make an impact but never at the expense of fresh musical flavours.

The Newcastle talent now returns with his debut solo EP on Topping’s imprint, ‘Kickin’ In The Beat’.

“Both tracks perfectly represent where want to take my sound going forward. I am heavily inspired by 90s house and love that a lot of producers and labels have brought that sound back to the forefront of dance music in recent years. “I wrote the vocal to ‘Take My Love’ over six years ago. I had a vocal idea that I recorded and added this weird organ preset from Diva VST, which gave the track a really funky feel. I then left the track dormant, as although it was a solid idea, it wasn't where I wanted it to be at the time. Then, last year, I decided to rework 'Take My Love' and see what would happen using my studio experiences since I started, and it really blossomed. “I wrote this song after a night out at fabric in London. The staff wear t-shirts that have the message “DON’T BE A
CREEP” in big, bold letters, and when I saw the shirts, the idea for this song just came to me. Once I had the lyrics
written I made the beat and used AI to change my voice into a female one. That’s my normal voice in the breakdown,
and every vocal you hear on the song is mine, apart from the dog bark haha. This track is me further exploring my

“Sweet Tea was a happy accident. I was trying to recreate the iconic Robin S bass on Serum, which is how I got the harsh synth throughout the track. After I had the synth melody, the rest of the elements just fell into place, and once it was finished, I knew I had something special. I sent it to Trick as it's been on my bucket list for a while, and to my disbelief, a matter of days later, Patrick Topping was playing it out from Hï Ibiza to Park Life to Pavilion Festival to Ushuaïa. The groove-laden three-track release represents a clear departure from the darker techno
sound of TRICK’s maiden release ‘Watch What Ya Doing’ - further demonstrating Topping’s
versatility as a producer. Kicking off proceedings, the EP’s title track is underpinned by an
infectious vocal sample and the funkiest of beats. While over on the B-side, ‘Let Wa Gan’ is a
darker, moodier number and ‘Galaxy’, featuring the scintillating vocals of Liset Alea, is a
celestial melodic stomper. The collaboration with Liset came about after Topping heard her
vocals on Alex Kid’s ‘Don’t Hide It’. The track quickly became a staple in his sets and he
made the decision to reach out to the Cuban-born singer shortly after.

Across the ‘Street Rave EP’ McVicar marries Chicago inflected raw house sounds with an unmistakable UK rave slant throughout. From the buoyant combination of undulating bass and a rich palette of synths, stabs and vocal drops, the title track is just under six minutes of earworming hooks. ‘Dorian’ is a tougher, more clipped affair with a stomping, acid-inflected groove doing the work while closing track sees McVicar team up with fellow Scot Roose for a no-holds-barred workout which fuse 4:4 UK hardcore to a rock-solid house beat.

A pumping club weapon, the  title track opens proceedings, pairing Patois MC samples with raw, Chicago-influenced house. On the flip side, ‘Easy For Us’ maintains the intensity of ‘Rocket Fuel’, placing an infectious, seemingly never ending four-to-the-floor beat and catchy robotic vocals at its heart. Continuing to discover fresh talent, Patrick Topping recruits Brazilian DJ/producer Mura for an irresistibly energetic first release laced with catchy rapped vocals sitting atop a bouncy, synth-laden production, inviting label family members Ewan McVicar and Elliot Adamson on board for a pair of high octane remixes. 

Following his ‘Street Rave EP’ on Trick in 2020, DJ Mag ‘Best Breakthrough Act’ nominee Ewan McVicar provides a high energy ‘Organ Mix’ of Mura’s original, keeping ‘88 alive with blasting stabs and chorded organs to transform ‘Check It’ into a no-holds-barred rave anthem. 

Elliot Adamson returns to Trick after yet another year of superb output in 2020 and turns in two remixes of ‘Check It’. The laser-ridden ‘Leazes’ remix and the aptly titled ‘Turbo’ remix both see the Newcastle-born producer taking no prisoners, adding a welcome dose of frenzied excitement to yet another standout release from Trick.

Trick is an acclaimed dance music label and event brand owned and curated by global dance music icon, Patrick Topping.

The Newcastle native launched Trick in 2019 as a platform to spot and champion emerging artists, both in the studio and behind the decks. Since then, Trick has become one of the scene's most popular underground dance music event brands and record labels, launching the careers of some of the UK's biggest ticket-sellers and creating a cult fan following along the way.

As a record label, Trick is set to his 100 releases in 2024 and has given an outlet to many new signings who have since become some of the fastest-rising stars in the UK, such as Ben Hemsley, Hannah Laing and Ewan McVicar, who delivered platinum-certified “Tell Me Something Good” along the way. 

Trick's loyal fanbase has become one of the most passionate communities in dance music, with fans sporting Trick's signature lightning bolt on merchandise and tattoos at events throughout the UK and beyond. From completing a 9-date residency in 2022 at Ibiza's legendary DC10, to hosting a stage at EDC Orlando 2022, to attracting 10,000 ravers to The Warehouse Project in Manchester and bringing thousands to an Australian Debut in Melbourne in 2023. Then there is the Trick Weekenders, Budapest in 2022 and Tenerife in 2023. These events both saw 2,500 Trick Troops holiday and party together abroad, with Trick Tenerife this year set to double in size.

In 2024 Patrick is set to give back to his roots, bringing legions of fans to his hometown of Newcastle this summer 2024 with the launch of Trick Fest. Trick will also return to Ibiza, hosting a four-date residency in Hï’s Theatre on Wednesdays.
