Last year we premiered the first release of Cologne collective HOOVE. Now they return with number two. As they continue with their commitment to really put the German city on the map, the focus remains on driving forward an already passionate electronic music scene. And although Kompakt may be the most well-known electronic entity in the area, HOOVE are the ones holding up the house flag.

It is hard to imagine the London underground before Enzo Siragusa minted the FUSE brand. This is a bold claim, but it is a totally fair comment given the mark that both Enzo and his brainchild have had on today’s current tech house sound. What is even more impressive is that it didn't seem so long ago we were discussing FUSE turning 10, now another landmark is on the horizon and even after 15 years there is no slowing down. It is impossible to discuss Enzo without heaping praise on FUSE, but there is much more to this unassuming raver than just his clubbing brand. His roots as a raver still informs everything that he does both in front and behind the decks and we doubt that this will ever change. For the next edition of our InSession series, we deliver a mix from a Colombian artist that is very much on the up and up. His co-founded Void From Above imprint has, since launching, been a meeting point for the burgeoning South American electro sound that has emerged to encompass the underground. His own sets positively drip with attitude, minor chord madness, and a swagger that is seldom replicated in quite the same way. Stripped grooves, mean basslines and minor synths are the order of the day (and night) and Samuel’s releases for the likes of Positive Future Music, Cymatix, Genie In A Bottle, Blkmarket Music, and Antam Records way back when.

For Samuel’s recording, we find him in blistering form as he is taking apart Video Club in his native Colombia. His closing set is as absolute as they come and positively bristles with the edgy, raw energy that has become one of the emerging sounds of the region. No prisoners are taken with an onslaught of banger after banger and the crowd lap it up and are kept locked in until well after the lights come on.

By now, OTIS and Paul Lution should be well-known names, and perhaps if you have not caught them performing in solo mode or collectively, then you will have undoubtedly caught some of their studio output in recent months. Being part of the Outcast Torino extended family, both artists have been in high demand and with their powerful audio creations speaking volumes at the moment this is surely only going to grow and grow. Collectively, this duo combine their love of electronics, dancefloor knowledge and even instruments to form an outrageous live act called Punky and The Brain. Perhaps the 90s cartoon reference may be lost on some, their madcap sets fuse electric guitar, live synths, and vocoded vocals into something akin to a rock performance rather than an electro pairing.

For those that do remember the cartoon from the mid 90s, the opening track from their InSessions recording is a timely reminder before they launch into the main section of their set. With their sound sitting in the sweet spot between Italo, nu school electro, acid, and breaks OTIS and Paul quickly move the gears in order to present their full spectrum in quick succession. With the pair performing in safety specs and white lab coats there is a clear case of style and substance, not just one over the other.

For the past 12 months, Lebanese artist and Fantôme de Nuit label founder Nesta has been a constant in the world music scene. Either via his own parties, guest performances around the globe, or his productions littering the finest labels, Nesta has covered a lot of ground. Nesta has of course been a driving force in the Middle East and Europe for much longer than that, with his label running for more than a decade now.

As well as his label, Nesta has also been responsible for throwing some of the finest parties around and for our next InSession edition we find Nesta in charge of the decks at his most recent party. Taking place at Berlin’s Hoppetosse, Nabih has hooked up with close friends of Trommel Melina and Jakob Seidensticker and their We R The Aliens label for a joint trip. In true Nesat fashion, he starts deep and shifts through the gears with ease. Moving through deep house to techier moods, but the magic occurs when he circles back to drop those sweet vocally curve balls that nobody sees coming. A cosmically soulful adventure, if ever there was one, that is the appeal of a Nesta set.

Milanese artist and party promoter Vithz has been a driving force in the Milan underground for quite some time. His U Feel parties tread a fine line between the music and fashion world with en vogue bookings and off-the-wall vibes that have seen him welcome the likes of Quest, Dan Shake, and Dr. Banana. His reach is most definitely not limited to Milan as Vithz regularly hooks up with New York legends ReSolute where they co-run some of the finest parties in the city as well as his own soirees. 

Having more than a few strings to his bow, Vithz already has an enviable discography in the making. With unmissable outings on the likes of Maestropolis Records, Suena Hermosa, and Purism, Vithz is gaining serious traction in all the right spheres. 

True to the form set by his DJ sets and parties, for his InSession mix, Vithz keeps things interesting throughout. In full-on party mode from the beginning, the Italian selector ensures the vibe never drops and with a slew of classic oldies, bumpy Chicago thumpers, and a smattering of dirty bass action thrown in for good measure.

Korea’s music scene has been bubbling for some time, but it is in the process of exploding, largely thanks to the hard work of artists like Radio Revolution, a cornerstone resident DJ of his scene. The foresight and musical knowledge required for such a feat is one that Radio Revolution approaches with such methodical ease that it cannot help but transfer over to the overall aesthetic of the event, as well as its much lauded success. This deep understanding of the Korean scene and its place in the global community has allowed RR to develop his own legacy as well as helping domestic artists to emerge.
