xenonyms is proud to present the debut EP by 23-year-old Montreal-based French musician Nathan Germain aka Sprælle (pronounced Sprah-lé).

If you’ve ever played the oft overlooked 1994 SNES classic Wolverine: Adamantium Rage you know that the true pearl of the endeavor is its heavy, low res proto garage soundtrack. Its swinging low end and forced staccato melodies gel into an undeniably groovy and danceable OST that transcends the confines of its intended function. Spraelle’s CRUSH UP EP stomps along in much the same spiritual space, in a beautiful hi fi du jour.

The moss of reverb intact, Intertwined raises in intensity from a predawn glow into an overexposed and harsh space, one which threatens to fall apart with each eroded drum hit as it is smashed in and quickly sucked out again. A vision of tearing metal on metal, experienced in infrared, rapid overpowering of federal forces as they meet with a newly freed and unstoppable para-human entity of their own engineering. Escaping finally from the subterranean tunnel on Quieto, we encounter the only human voice in the entire release; Texas' own Desvelada speaking quietly of conflicting intimacies, disquietude; a memory of meeting someone new, half remembered, half dreamt. On this track we are also offered the most overt groove, loping along, perfect head bob, in a funky trip hop crawl. The start stop cannonade of heavy drums pounds itself into modulating shapes, allowing us occasional moments of respite.

HARSH LUV offers us an ear worm of a lead synth line, echoing chirps gradually land upon dry, gun cocked techno beats and plinking counterpoints culminating in an expansive moment where every component is allowed to dance with the other. Blunted Affect immerses us immediately in the hazy overgrowth of reverb and the implied cavernous locale that we will remain in throughout most of the EP, it’s regal melodies and clicking drums whirring away into noise. Truly free. At last.

Falling To The Point Of Floating is the debut EP from Montreal based experimental-ambient producer operaa.

The EP opens with Surface Of Somewhere, where a wash of noise, sub-aquatic drones and bubbly filters form an otherworldy texture.

The second track Garden is a soothing and emotive piece that could almost be described as environmental music. Listeners will find that sounds of everyday life gel with this minimal composition that is carried forward by processed piano, warm sub-bass and airy granular synthesis.

The title track Falling To The Point Of Floating has a contemplative, layered, and slow progression, where dense swells are contrasted against a myriad of sound design. Variations between patterns of these sounds offer a sense of direction as the listener is suspended in a colorful, intriguing space.

"The second half of this album was, again, written during quarantine. Unlike the first, though, I not only had more time to spend contemplating, but more time to devote to the album as well. The songs here I spent more time building, I think, stronger and more intricate melodies and structures.

The album itself is again one which, now as a whole, I want to exist solely on its own without context. So much of what is going on undoubtedly influences your work, but I don't believe one needs to necessarily share their contexts; and perhaps, sometimes, they should go unknown altogether."

Trying Times at Sea was made over a couple of winter months, on an offshore wind survey vessel in the North Atlantic. The weather was often harsh, halting all work and leading to long periods of idle waiting. The EP emerged organically from these isolated circumstances, with each track developed entirely from scratch, and evading conventional song structures.

When offshore, you wake up at odd hours floating out of your bed as you crest a wave, or watching machinery freeze in real time in strongly minus temperatures. The sound was directly inspired by my surroundings, and by the juxtaposition of heavy machinery with brutal nature. Recording alternated between a shared bedroom and a helideck lounge, where the ever present sound of the elements would still make its way.

Wintering at the Thirty One

The clock represents the cyclical nature of time itself. Time is not linear, rather constantly folding in and upon itself. By this same token, while we may think of time as an instrument of measurement on the outset, its metaphysical existence demonstrates how history repeats itself infinitely, second by second; perhaps in ways unbeknownst to the human eye or conscious. I imagined a man in a clock shop, living amongst these instruments of function yet, like music, simultaneously adjusting them to reflect something deeper than we can understand.

Charles Taciturn - Sparring The Gull

Sistema Aero is a new collaboration by Charles Taciturn and label boss GFXIII in an attempt to step out of their comfort zones and create something completely different from what they're used to.

Oscuridad starts as a brooding experimental cumbia piece that reveals layer after layer of instrumentation, while Zone 2 instantly drops the listener into a fast paced world full of dark atmospherics and intense percussion.

A few worlds by Charles about the creation of the single:

"The process began by GFXIII (Rafa) sending an initial beat and me (Charles) returning the stems back after having added my own ideas. The process then repeated again, making the tracks each something entirely different than their very first iteration. The result is something both of us are beyond proud of and we're both very appreciative that these weird times allowed for something creative to bloom here."

If you’ve ever played the oft overlooked 1994 SNES classic Wolverine: Adamantium Rage you know that the true pearl of the endeavor is its heavy, low res proto garage soundtrack. Its swinging low end and forced staccato melodies gel into an undeniably groovy and danceable OST that transcends the confines of its intended function. Spraelle’s CRUSH UP EP stomps along in much the same spiritual space, in a beautiful hi fi du jour.

Running Parallel is the second single by Sistema Aero, the collaborative effort between Charles Taciturn and xenonyms label boss GFXIII.

The lead track sets off the genre bending mood of the release by incorporating distrorted cumbia and jungle breaks inside a dreamy, buoyant atmosphere. In contrast 'Tierra Maldita' reveals itself as a sinister four-to-the-floor mutation full of hypnotic synths and eerie vocal sections.
