After I released 'Astronaut' with Scroobius Pip, I set to work on an album. No one wanted to release it for whatever reason hearing the tunes, but I think there's some great tracks, the ones with Polar Bear are especially good!

Before I got a chance to finish it I got a chance to play for Roisin Murphy so I went on tour for a year and then I just wasn't in the same head-space when I returned. I didn't think the tunes we're finished but listening back I think that I'd like to give them to you all for free!

‘Hipslop’ pays homage to the 90s jungle / drum and bass process of sampling old jazz records. 
Yila distances himself from the past as he dips into his own purpose-made composition played by a 5 piece jazz outfit, cutting and splicing their highly syncopated basslines, atmospheric piano chords and deconstructed intricate drum solos. 
The accompanying pitch bent recordings of a Tawny Owls mating call adds to the 90s rave / post hardcore references and the homage is complete.

‘Dysfunctional Combinations & Collaborations Vol.2’ sees Slovenian based British producer Yila continue his return to dance-floor territory after a fruitful Vol.1, this time diving into the process of the 90s. 

On ‘I’m the Future’ he teams up with Berlin based producer and DJ Maya Schenck (vocals) and Montreal based drummer and percussionist Max Sansalone. The pulsating bassline, throbbing hi hat and Sansalone’s effects laden tribal polyrhythm apparitions combine with Schenck’s broken down poetry to result in a haunting earworm and an instant alt-club weapon.

I'm the Future - ft. Maya Schenk

YILA is the name for a changing collaborative project lead by Sound Artist Alastair McNeill.

His work takes many musical forms; performing with David Toop’s Unknown devices group, Producing for Scroobius Pip, touring with Roisin Murphy, designing immersive musical theatre pieces, working with authors on voice manipulated ambisonic installations and most recently working with Laibach’s vocalist Mina. Alastair McNeill a prolific experimenter, keeps shifting his own musical boundaries from Orchestral Pop / Electronica to Techno and noise within this Moniker.

YILA has self released and with labels Sunday Best, Sliver Bear and Supremus Records
