Green Team Network for Sustainable Shipping in the Baltic Sea Region

This podcast is a documentation from the Green Team Network event that took place on 5th September 2017 on the island of Donsö, Gothenburg archipelago.

The Green Team Network project started a cross-sectorial stakeholder network that will be a part of Green Technology and Alternative Fuels Platform in the Baltic Sea, and thus will support the implementation of the Sustainable Baltic Shipping Draft Roadmap on Green Technology and Alternative Fuels. The project was implemented May - December 2017 and was co-funded by the Swedish Institute, seed funding programme for the Baltic Sea region.

The roadmap for Green Technology and Alternative Fuels for Shipping was launched in 2014, at the conference on “Sustainable Baltic Sea Shipping, Green technology and alternative fuels with focus on air emissions” which was organised by the Finnish Presidency of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) and HELCOM, in cooperation with Baltic Development Forum and Northern Dimension Partnership on Transport and Logistics.

There were various developments since the launch of the platform that continued to strengthen sustainable shipping and alternative fuels paradigm in the Baltic Sea region. Besides the increasing policy commitment articulated through the fora such as HELCOM and CBSS, as well as the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region, various projects were started that included actors from both public and private sectors.

Projects like Sustainable Shipping Index, LNG Cluster in the Baltic Sea Region as well as a number of projects within the Zero Vision Tool platform contributed to the goal of making sustainable shipping in the Baltic Sea to “the new normal.”

The project Green Team Network is coordinated by Zero Vision Tool (SE) in partnership with Maritime Institute in Gdansk (PL), Estonian Shipowners’ Association (EE) and Klaipeda Science and Technology Park (LT).
