Surface Induction Element

I love walking around my city at night and happened down an alley behind a jazz club. Through the walls I could faintly hear piano notes glitches and muffled by the brick and air between me and the notes being played. Process: I sampled 2 notes from an old Casio SK1 into my Octatrack, split those into 3 frequencies, replayed and chopped them on the fly. Recorded live no overdubs or manipulation.

The Oblique strategies card I drew was "Listen in total darkness or in a very large room very quietly. I used the first few seconds of Analoc's "Sofa" From his description it sounded like nothing was going on but I heard heaps of potential. 99% of what I do is created live in 1 take and very rarely edited. So this type of remix is right up my alley. I quickly sampled the beginning into my Machinedrum and Octatrack. My MD and OT are always set to play back samples immediately.   I used 2 outputs on the MD and ran parts of the sample through 2 convolution reverbs (Epsi's to be exact. I split the OT samples in to low mid and high so I could effect each frequency differently. While doing that I had Samplr waiting to record a snippet so I could perform the 1 minute piece with all 3. I used a DAW (ableton) only to play the original sample and put a quick fade in and out on the live recording. I mention this because I'm fascinated with how people make music and always enjoy hearing how another artist approaches their compositions.
