The main intention of this series is to expand music culture approaching this world music classics to another styles where they can be introduced in dj sets and get discovered by new audiences. This is a chance for people to get in touch with artists that otherwise they wouldn't discovered and the first step to dig into their musics, their cultures and their lives.

This beautiful song is from Devendra Banhart, a special artist that was born in the USA and raised by his mother in Venezuela mixing Spanish and English in his fabulous repertoire.

After a well received first EP on Lowup records, Nüfrika (Pekodjinn & Rolv.K) are back with a remix EP.
First up is Kensaye, a London based producer, DJ & radio host. Here at Lowup we’ve been quite a fan of his production work lately. He takes on ‘Tsévié’ giving it a slightly rougher feel and adding some percussion as well. Great track to start the party.
Next up is DJ Danifox with ‘Premier Sentier’. He turns the original intro track into a 6 minute workout fusing elements of deep house and what we came to know as the Lisbon sound. A highly addictive, deep and trance inducing workout, adding some lush vocals as well. Danifox is part of the Tia Maria Produções (Principe discos).
For the next remix we remain in Portugal, Pedro takes on ‘Onisan’. This Enchufada collaborator with a freshly released album, stays close to the original while adding his personal touch. The result is a smooth afro baile dance track, just as we like ‘em.
Lowups own Max Le Daron remixes ‘Fayudan’. Adding some bass and thus giving it a more Uk flavour. Also be on the lookout for his album, due soon on Akwaaba.

Sankara Future Dub Resurgence is a dub collective from Uganda with members Ras Isaac, Ras Charles, Kabaka Labartin Klacity and Dhangsha. Supported by the activist label Indigenous Resistance. Their long hypnotic tune ‘Two Thousand Seasons Dub’ is futuristic African music guided by ancestral knowledge and inspired by the book “Two Thousand Seasons” by Ayi Kwei Armah. Future dub for the liberation of the people of West Papua as a lyrical meditation on colonialism past and present, with guest vocals by MC Nina from Indonesia.

'Gavoé' recalls the spirit of her Ghanaian roots in a ballet of instruments that displays a level of personal freedom and sensitivity.

ESINAM - Gavoé

Dandana is a band with members from Netherlands, The Gambia and Senegal. They bring Afro-Futurist mandingo funk, heavily fuelled by influences of Guelewar and Ifang Bondi. ‘Free The System!’ is from the same titled album that will be released on Rebel Up on friday 18 September. It’s a song that builds up and descends into layered synth funk, with a message that the youth will set our system free, breaking the rules of the old and the conservative.
