World-première 24 January 2014, in Orgelpark, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, as part of the organ recital ‘Constellations’ conceived and performed by Michael Bonaventure (@michael-bonaventure).

The electronic soundtrack of Accretion was composed by René for Michael Bonaventure. The organ part was realised by Michael Bonaventure, and is performed here on the Sauer Organ in Orgelpark.

This piece is inspired by the extremely violent processes that characterize the universe as well as by its harmonious and peaceful appearance from a distance. Its title, 'Accretion', refers to the gravity-induced formation of stars and planetary systems that is thought to take place in clouds of molecular gas, known as accretion discs. The piece is based on my personal associations with this astrophysical phenomenon- from boiling fusion processes inside the core of a star to swirling debris of planetary formation at the outskirts of our solar system. The piece is in three parts:

Lux Aeterna

“The rook, the rook!” you cry,
and instinctively I turn to the sky
to look for a bird

You continue to shout,
so I look back
to see you gesture at the ground

I follow your eyes
to a chess piece
stuck in the soil

I humor you
and retrieve
the small castle

And pass it to you
as you reach out as far
as the restraints will allow

I watch your face fall
as your fingers discover
it is thin plastic, not wood

It drops back to the ground
and you play it off
as a bout of being difficult

I turn without comment,
slip back into my harness,
and resume pulling

If you ever return my tongue, I shall tell you not to call me horse [Story in Desc]
