I dug into a little production on this one and managed to cram a bunch of sounds into the old 4 track without it turning into a mess of static and noise. Piano, drums, tambourine, bass, chord organ, RMI Electra-piano, string machine, electric guitar and vocal. How'd it all fit on 4 tracks?

This sketch was made to test out my recreation of Hugh LeCain's Special Purpose Tape Recorded. I recreated the instrument for a celebration of LeCain's life and work at the Music Gallery a few years back. The instrument is a 16 track tape recorder playing a tape loop of voice recordings. Each track is triggered by the key of a keyboard. There is also another 2 track recorder being used to create delay and echo effects.

The Past is a Foreign Country

A. David MacKinnon is a Toronto based songwriter and producer. From the late 90s till the late 00's he was one half of the band FemBots. FemBots released 4 records through Paper Bag and weewerk Records. After the band split David release a record of soundtrack inspired instrumental songs and retired from singing and public performance. 
Late in 2015 he began writing songs with words and singing again. Demos for these are being uploaded to the 4 Track Bummers playlist as they are written. At some point they might turn into a real record.
