Plasma Sources is proud to present nosync’s Soundsystem Music, an EP which provides a fresh perspecHve on the high-fidelity and sci-fi influenced electronic music the imprint is known for.

nosync’s work sits in a truly unique space in the sound system/club music-o-sphere. This in large part is due to his heavy deployment of progressive metal instrumentaHon, from chugging walls of overdriven guitars to relentless double-Hme kick pa\erns. On paper, uHlising this pale\e in a club-music context may seem like an impossible task. However, where others might see a chasm of disparity, nosync has de^ly idenHfied the bridge connecHng these two genres, seeing in these two landscapes the same desired emoHonal state - despite the different methodologies used to achieve this.

Indeed Soundsystem Music as a whole feels wildly cinemaHc and is as much an exercise in atmosphere creaHon as music for sound systems, with nosync ciHng the video game Dead Space and its sequel as key influences for this body of work. From the claustrophobic, elasHcated wind chamber of ‘Traced’ to the broken choir voices and FiS-esque ambient abyss of ‘Dead Land’, nosync has expertly matched the pace and atmosphere of these hugely iconic and u\erly terrifying video games and channeled them into a purely sonic experience.

This is a collection of songs and recordings from U's archive on Archenfield, a place that exists beneath the drifting borders of England, Wales and the Forest of Dean. The mix explores the area's musical history, humour and the sometimes overbearing legacy of senior nostalgia on modern rural culture. Amidst cheeky spoken word passages, rolling waves of piano and agile bucolic guitars, and twanging transatlantic connections, U juxtaposes different versions of folksongs and standards. Lydbrook Silver Band’s performance of ‘Edelweiss’ is dreamily mournful with ghostly brass arrangements, the sound of gloomy moors and overcast marshes switched out for Christine Turner’s arresting voice, while U transitions from Michael Tanner & Alison Cotton’s mystical plucks and string to his own ominously tolling drums and stories of ‘Black Vaughan’.

Rounding out an electrifying year, Sandwell District deliver a mix that both celebrates Bleep's album of the year End Beginnings and pays tribute to the man who helped them get this far. Silent Servant’s discography is a plentiful one and Sandwell shows it in all its colours, ranging from hissing electro to sputtering microbeats to revolving hardcore throb doused in mysterious ambience. Blissful ripples of soft rounded synth melody slowly flow into rebounding beats and slamming dub synths, transformed into tactile laser pulses and howling gusts of distortion. The predatorily strutting bass stabs of Sterile Hand’s ‘The Hunter’ is stealthy EBM under the cloak of night, contrasted by Tropic Of Cancer’s guitar twangs worked into slick yet turbulent percussive sequences Cabaret Voltaire’s ‘Silent Command’ edited into a jittery, woozy lofi dream.
