German Army (@german-army) is a duo from the San Gabriel Valley. Born between Sydney Possuelo and Paulo Freire, this project is as prolific and productive as it is shrouded in mystery.
Characterised by a certain amount of experimentation aimed at sound collage, the most industrial plunderphonics and the darkest noises, the enigmatic Californian collective has accustomed us to a certain variability of musical genres, but also, without a doubt, to an unquestionably high level of quality and a perennial dark emotional component, which reveals itself in an exquisitely overbearing way in their work.

'Then is Now' certainly doesn't spare itself in this, gently dragging us (but with no way out) into a dreamlike and post-apocalyptic scenario. The air is rarefied, the atmosphere terribly poisonous; noisy organic references blend with ruined urban components. A constant tension takes over our bodies during this muddy, murky sonic journey.

Time is the merciless executioner, the place the poor sacrificial victim.

While Que Sakamoto & NT raise the BPMs for high dancefloor effectiveness, Tassilo Vanhöfen adds his touch by making ‘Turtle Haze Convolution’ a heavy and dark groove bomb. Lastrack transforms the same track into a massive base-slash-dubstep number that will unleash its power on any big sound system. Anna Vs June from Athens adds a personal touch to ‘Chameleon Brain Dance’ by contributing her own voice and DJ Blech explores the world of polyrhythms and creates a trippy journey on the base of ‘Lobster Symbiotic Dialogue’.

Los Pashminas - Turtle Haze Convolution (Lastrack Remix)

The LP, mostly inspired by Ursula L Guins Earthsea, follows the narrative of a shadow/gebbeth stalking oneself and trying to overpower the phases of one submitting to & resisting it. Susu's voice demonstrates the gebbeth, using her voice as an instrument, representing it in various proximities but also at times it represents the soul in various states responding to the gebbeth. The backing and verse then operate as a call and response between the gebbeth and the soul. Many lyrics are inspired and formed from a Persian book of poetry and the cut-up technique style within it. Her trademark dark & harrowing sound is prominent throughout, taking influence from dabke rhythms.
