The Poetry Of Violence

Summer’s vanished and a growing ache 
tells you leaving love was a cold mistake, 
Chilling feeling of the fall says you lost it all. 
Melancholy makes a lonely day 
when the one you want to hold is far away, 
Leaves you wanting to reclaim what you can’t recall. 

Now, as the greens turn to rose, there’s a part of you knows, 
You regret what you chose, the wind still blows,  
Piling leaves at your feet, and you have to retreat. 
Moved, by the call of the loon, all the sounds that commune, 
Sing a similar tune, it was too soon, 
For the long days to end, to depart and pretend. 

Lonely fire in the evening air;
you consider the images that flicker there, 
Eyes that held you in a thrall when you had it all, 
Now dissolve into dancing flights 
while the sky is painted by the northern lights, 
Leaving writing in a scrawl that you still recall, saying,
