Axel Karakasis is the most recognizable Greek name in the Techno scene. His career is marked by several classic themes and a series of appearances that have established him as an international DJ. 

The rise to his present status did not happen overnight, but goes back to the 80s and the 90s, when Techno made its first appearance. Fascinated by this new wave, Axel’s courtship with electronic music saw a very different light… 

By the late 90s, he was already known through various DJ residencies in Athens, as well as through his regular events with his team “Bubbles” –to be remembered to this date by many! This was when the techno wiz-kid earned his place among the top Greek DJs and appeared in numerous events in the biggest clubs of the Greek capital! He soon became the most wanted Greek Techno DJ, playing regularly in the biggest venues in Athens, Thessaloniki, Mykonos, Crete and all over his native Greece. 

Being a restless spirit led Axel to new avenues in music production. He always wanted to play unique music in his sets. That’s what drove him to get into the studio and begin his own productions. In 2000, he had his first release on Pornographic Recordings and this was only the beginning, as a string of classic releases followed in the likes of Intec Records, MB Elektronics, Primate, etc. to establish himself in a genre he referred to as “Groovy Techno”! With his very own mark on discography, Axel’s international career took off. Confirming his status as the most sought after Greek Techno DJ of his time, Axel headlines events in some of the best clubs in the world, such as the Rex Club (Paris), Womb (Tokyo), Turnmills (London), tours regularly countries like Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland, Korea, Croatia, Slovenia, Ukraine, Holland and Malta, to name a few, and has appeared in top festivals like Awakenings (Netherlands) Rabac Festival (Croatia), Apokalypsa (Czech Republic), etc.: he keeps exciting crowds all over the world!

At present, Axel releases his music in top record labels, like Kombination Research, Planet Rhythm, Tronic and others, whereas his tracks have featured in well known compilations and mix CDs, such as Extreme Euphoria (Ministry of Sound), Cream Ibiza, I Love Techno, and many many more. However, his work wouldn’t be complete without his own imprint! In his first venture, he was the co-founder of Omega Audio Recordings, which received rave reviews and support by top DJs world-wide, as well as being a platform for new talents to see the spotlight. In September 2007, Axel decided to channel all his energy into his very own brainchild, Remain Records, which is gradually transforming into a brand encompassing both vinyl (Remain Records) and digital (Remain Records and Remain Limited) releases by Axel, The Advent & Industrialyzer, Marco Bailey, Cristian Varela, Alexander Kowalski, A.Paul as well as newer talent. 

Axel’s strong reputation is based on his consistency towards the genre that established him. Always faithful to techno, Axel Karakasis delivers all-fresh, brand-new sounds that evolve. Having earned strong support by clubbers and his peers worldwide, Axel keeps challenging the clubland with his releases and his full of energy DJ sets.

A great philosopher (Samuel Johnson, not Ebeneezer Goode) once wrote… “our brightest blazes of gladness are commonly kindled by unexpected sparks”. While it would be a stretch to suggest the Drumcode artist roster are closet philosophy fans, once one begins to unravel the tale that led to Jel Ford remixing the 2012 Alan Fitzpatrick hit ‘For An Endless Night’ and it is impossible to escape the unexpected enterprise and spirit of surprise that are at the heart of this exciting collaboration.

As fans of Adam Beyer’s label will testify, the two Drumcode names have more in common than just a label stable, they also share common ground with the peak-time melodic sound that has delivered many of the labels most memorable output. Ford being a much more recent addition than Fitzpatrick, whose history with the seminal Swedish imprint stretches back to 2009, however Ford’s history within techno goes back even further having released multiple EP’s through the early noughties on vintage UK techno labels including Dave Angel’s Rotation Records, Billy Nasty’s Tortured Records, Primate Recordings and Ford’s own Jericho imprint.

It is within this shared passion for uplifting synths and big room melodies that the ‘unexpected spark’ of creativity that led to Ford remixing Fitzpatrick can be found. An long-time admirer of Fitzpatrick’s work, Ford had developed an idea for his alternative version and secretly worked on the remix long before any discussion of the project had taken place. Once given the draft version, Fitzpatrick immediately endorsed the remix, excited to have an updated version to breath new life into what had become a familiar staple of his sets for the past two years. Parts were swapped and the end result being the barnstorming end-of-night monster presented here. A track that will be familiar with many having been the subject of much social-media furor since it first surfaced back in Autumn 2014.

IS.IA – pasjonatka klasycznego, wysokiej jakości techno. Urodzona w czasach ostatniego pokolenia dorastającego bez smartfonów, muzykę poznawała w domowym zaciszu – z płyt, które po prostu były pod ręką. Vivaldi i jego Cztery pory roku, Pink Floyd czy Jean-Michel Jarre, których nagrania przewijały się w domu, odcisnęli ślad na jej dorosłym guście muzycznym.

W wieku szkolnym uczyła się gry na keyboardzie, ale dopiero wiele lat później natrafiła na ścieżkę, która naprawdę zaiskrzyła. W 2023 roku trafiła do Electronic DJ School, gdzie po raz pierwszy stanęła za konsoletą.

Po niemal roku eksplorowania brzmień nagrała pierwszy set dla Dirty Stuff Records, a niedługo później postawiła pierwsze kroki w produkcji, wydając utwór Ferro dla tej samej wytwórni. W kolejce do wydania czeka już kilka kolejnych utworów, a pasja do tworzenia i miksowania ciągle przybiera na sile.

Adam Beyer’s Drumcode juggernaut attracts more fans and critical plaudits with each passing year. Holding firm on its future facing ethos, techno’s number one label presents a new volume in its acclaimed A-Sides series with 20 prime tracks to signify its 20th anniversary. 

Such is the volume of quality music Adam Beyer receives throughout the course of the year, releasing all of it would be impossible. Enter the blue chip A-Sides series: a chance for the quality-obsessive label head to issue a collection of outstanding tracks that couldn’t fit in their regular EP release schedule. 

With an eye on future talent, as much as the label’s established roster of heavy-hitters, the compilation showcases the full breadth of Drumcode’s multifaceted techno sound, equal parts inspiring and functional. 

Led by the stealth techno funk of ‘Nine of You’, Beyer’s deft collaboration with Mark Reeve, the compilation takes in exciting highlights from big guns such as Alan Fitzpatrick, Dustin Zahn, Bart Skils, Pleasurekraft, Luca Agnelli, Jay Lumen, Kaiserdisco and Gary Beck. 

The rich vein of form displayed by emerging techno talent is similarly given prime position. Rising DJ/producer Boxia makes his Drumcode debut, fresh from a well-received warm up set for the crew at the hugely successful Junction 2 festival in London, while the likes of Enrico Sangiuliano, Juan Sanchez, Ian O’Donovan and Timmo also drop fire, establishing their credentials as some of the most promising talent breaking through the ranks in 2016. 

Reinforcing the global scope of the label, artists such as The Junkies from Toronto and Layton Giordani from New York, prove techno is winning a place in the heart of the new generation of artists coming out of North America.

A.Paul has been a driving force in the evolution of techno music since its inception. He is recognised for his intense DJ performances and his relentless stream of studio productions for some of the best labels in the world. Operating under his own name as well as aliases like Loudon Kleer and Beat Therapy, A.Paul has spent over 30 years dedicated to electronic music, earning a reputation as one of the most versatile and prolific artists in the scene.

His distinctive sound and technique have propelled him to a remarkable career, first gaining recognition in Portugal, where he was repeatedly voted the best Portuguese techno DJ, and later on an international scale. 

A.Paul has performed at some of the most prestigious mega-eventsaround the world, including Awakenings (Netherlands), Apokalypsa (CzechRepublic), Evolve (Canada), Nature One (Germany), Rock in Rio (Portugal),Syndicate (Germany), Ruhr-in-Love (Germany), Tecnolandia (Portugal),Aquasella (Spain), Liberty White (Belgium), and Decibel (Netherlands). He has also graced the decks at iconic clubs such as Tresor, U60311, Lehmann, and Butan (Germany); Fabrik, Moog, Makumba, Ind Copera, Row14 (Spain); Perron, Panama, Poema (Netherlands); Rex and Inox (France);and Locomia, Rocks, Kremlin, Gare, Pacha (Portugal), among many others.

A.Paul’s first record was released in 1995, followed by the creation of two of his most acclaimed projects of the 1990s: Squeeze Records and Onh.Cet Records, which were the primary outlets for his music during that decade. 

In 2005, he launched Naked Lunch, a bold new label that has since featured some of the best techno artists in the world and received incredible feedback from DJs and fans alike. In 2012, he relaunched Onh.Cet, alongside other projects such as Parallel 125, Dirty Ego, The Light, and Xtractz. He also co-founded MPC, a vinyl distribution company, with Michaelangelo (Labrynth Recs) and Cisco Ferreira (The Advent).
 
A.Paul has released over 100 vinyl records and many digital releases on labels like Kombination Research, Synewave, Planet Rhythm, Suara,bItalo Business, Pure Sonik, Theory, Mastertraxx, Beat Disaster, Yin Yang, and Impact Mechanics. He has also remixed tracks for renowned artists such as The Advent, Ben Sims, Eric Sneo, Angel Alanis, Orlando Voorn, Damon Wild, DJ T-1000, Virgil Enzinger, Robert Armani, Dave The Drummer, DJPreach, Mike Humphries, Spiros Kaloumenos, Torsten Kanzler, Bas Mooy, Housemaster Boyz, and many more.
