Ambient Track /  Sound Art Archive

Kevin Toma and Jeroen Diepenmaat created a new, exciting but modest soundtrack for Chantal Akerman‘s Hotel Monterey (1972). An experimental, silent documentary that wanders through a rundown hotel in New York like a ghost or stray visitor. Occasionally a guest appears in front of the camera or we see men and women, motionless in their dim suite. Mainly because of the long wanderings through the corridors, doors that secretly open, light that shines through keyholes and empty elevators, the film breathes a melancholy, ghostly atmosphere. Swayed by that atmosphere, Toma and Diepenmaat create thrilling soundscapes using electronics, samples, live piano and live surface manipulation of laserdiscs(!) on modified turntables, making Hotel Monterey a place where time petrifies and the spectator may never want to leave.

Recorded live on September 22, 2013 at ACSH 25 in Filmhuis de Keizer, Deventer, NL. The recording was mixed and slightly edited from two sources by Harco Rutgers. No mastering.

Marco-Augusto Basso, aka Millepiani, is an Italian artist, composer and performer active between Venice, Genoa and Milan, whose research spans electronic and contemporary music, visual arts, writing and theatre; co-founder of the independent gallery Palazzo Bronzo in Genoa and author of the book Lemmario (Ipercubo Publishing, awarded by IUAV Venice), he has presented works in contexts such as Artissima, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, GAM Turin, Bunker Turin, Nest (NL) and Fondazione Palazzo Ducale, as well as residencies at the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna; Under the name Millepiani, he develops sound and performance projects ranging from immersive installations such as Labirintico to ritual performances such as Moyocoyatzin, to soundtracks for multimedia projects such as Sirotti Reboot, elaborating an experimental language that combines dramaturgy, archive, technology and sound improvisation.

The condition of the posthuman, the impotence of our life in the face of choices forced by "normal society" such as pumping petrol and polluting to go to work, polluting to make a living in a certain sense, polluting to survive... Capitalism has been converted into an algorithm and today these calculations are ungovernable and we become aware while dancing among the ruins distorted by plastic people.  Perhaps there is our first line of ideological war, philosophical resistance, sowing the idea of ​​knowledge starting from the Ruins and Macabre Dances....for Now...let's meditate....

Post Human

In this piece I used sounds recorded in a domestic environment.
Sounds recorded and converted into a daw with granular synthesis, slowing of sounds and reverberated sound spaces give life to this sound environment not entirely innovative, but unique in its form
Taking up the mechanisms of the pioneers of concrete music and acousmatic art, I tried to rework the sounds of the world and of everyday life by creating this experimental flow.
Good Listening to all those who wish to have a meditative approach to electronic music created with recorders

Suoni registrati e convertiti in una daw con sintesi granulare , rallentamento dei suoni e spazi sonori riverberati danno vita a questo ambiente sonoro non del tutto innovativo, ma unico nella sua forma
Riprendendo i meccanismi dei pionieri della musica concreta e dell'arte acusmatica , ho cercato di rielaborare i suoni del mondo e della vita di tutti i giorni creando questo flusso sperimentale.
Buon Ascolto a tutti quelli che desiderano avere un'approccio meditativo della musica elettronica creata con registratori.

Biography
Empirical as a hard sip spilling from a discharged battery. There is always a nihilistic fetish in these youngsters dealing with technology. Stefano Martino, aka R A S H, is never hiding this darkest side in his composition. His machinery becomes a ritual object within which his human state becomes an algorithmic begging of change making its appearance at warm 50 hertz complacency.

His sound exploration is elaborated through decadent, post-industrial soundscapes inscribing the full failure of a consumer society which noise becomes an evidence whilst its awareness is modelled, reworked within a dystopian hexavalent chromium taste, blended into the future.
