“Arrrrggghaaa arrrrghaaaa! Cries Tarzan, and all the beasties come a running. The ground shakes to a thousand pairs of thundering hooves. Tarzan stands stock still in a large clearing, wet-look soft rock hair glistening in the sunlight, loincloth tight, nonchalantly cleaning his nails as the beasts bear down on him… Oooof! The beasties just steamrollered over him and come to a screeching halt at the feet of…  Charlie Beale! As I live and breathe! “Awright Geezers?” says Charlie, “Welcome to Freemixed Nuts Volume 4” and the elephants trumpet euphorically. 

The camera pans around to Leo who’s wearing a banana fancy dress outfit, grinning from ear to ear in the arms of a lovestruck silverback. Waggles and The Fritz are in matching pink tights and tu-tu’s, instructing a chorus line of flamingos the flamenco. Dephicit has covered his chin with lemon curd (again) and is now sporting an incredibly hipster beard made entirely of ants and wasps. X-Ray Ted is playing with the monkeys…oooh, they really shouldn’t be flinging that stuff around, it’ll get in someone’s eye! Get a room! Mr Stabalina is teaching the cutie meerkats to swear, he’s going to hell for that! Bear Twists is..oh my god, he’s TWISTING BEARS! Oh wait, he’s just giving Baloo a Chinese burn. General News turns to the camera, waves a glitter cannon filled with hallucinogenic frogs and says in his best Tony Montana voice, “Say hello to my little friends” and fires his psychoactive ammo. Bam!  …hey, why are my hands so big? Why has everything gone purple? Woah, can you see elephants?

At one of my shows in San Francisco recently I got one of the strangest song requests of my career. I was in the middle of mixing in a funky glitch hop throw back banger, when a girl came up and asked for some Fleetwood Mac. Naturally, I had nothing for her. I wasn't about to play a raw Fleetwood Mac track in the middle of a glitch hop set, and I'm not really in the businesses of taking requests anyways.

This remix has been a special one for us. We came up with the concept and created it entirely on the road during the Canadian Ghetto Funk tour last spring. While squished together in the back seat of a small car winding through the Rocky Mountains and powering three laptops off one inverter, we found just enough elbow room to combine our skills and mash out this extremely catchy tune straight from the late 90s summer charts! It quickly became a staple set-closer for many JPOD and Funk Hunters sets and it's been a real treat to sing along with you at the end of the night whenever this gets dropped. We've received a great deal of requests for this remix, so we're happy to finally let this one loose as a Thank You gift for all the amazing support this past year!

The story of Fort Knox Five and Stickybuds goes back over a decade, funk is the glue that binds these brothers together, and they have rocked the same great festivals and shows across the US and Canada.  All of that funky party rockin' has culminated with Stickybuds' first official remix of Fort Knox Five, his reinterpretation of Give It A Minute featuring bcap. No doubt you have heard Stickybuds teasing the crowd with some exclusive Fort Knox Five acapellas and drops over the years in his legendary sets, but this opens a whole new chapter with his bombastic remix.

Stickybuds cuts right to the chase, as his mix opens up immediately to bcap's narrative verse and the relentless percussive synths that propel it over the hard hitting beats.  Synth pop sensibilities of groups like Oliver and Chromeo can be heard dripping over Stickybuds unique glitch-hop style production.  With epic big builds and organic drum fills, the remix rides the line between electro and classic funk.  

From the start the remix gets you hooked on the dancefloor, delivering bcap's catchy chorus over booty shaking beats. And then the big break down devastates with its cut-up and asymmetrical glitched-out vocals layered on top of the electro-synths. Featuring a healthy dose of Rob Myers' guitar/synth lines and heavily utilizing the original vocals, the remix maintains the vibe of FK5's original track. Stickybuds delivers the goods and flips the Future Funk, Go-Go meets Glitch-Hop of the original into an Electro meets Glitch-Hop dancefloor powerhouse.

Also included is the instrumental version, which slays on its own and highlights Stickybuds impeccable studio production.  This killer remix of Give It A Minute is meant to be played loud and danced furiously to, and is the best way we could imagine finishing out the year, with an absolute banger.

Alright, I'm so happy to get this mix out to you guys finally. I've had it in the back of my mind for a long time. I vividly recall buying my first Olav Basoski record In Vancouver at Otis Records in 1999. I had been dj'ing less than a couple months and it was a used copy of Samplitude 6. Hearing the tracks on that record completely changed my perception of what I thought house was, being a huge disco fan I fell in love with Olavs's production style and the way he used his samples. Long story short it was a game changer and a huge influence then and now on the style of music I play. Seeing him play back then at Frostee 4 and Magic Mountain are memories I'll never forget, if you were there you know. I hope I did his music justice on this mix, I mainly stuck with original productions from the Samplitude series and from his excellent label Rootz Records. For me it's the purest form and really the remixes could be a whole other mix on their own. Olav if you read this thanks so much for all you've done for house music, you should be super proud of everything you've accomplished, quite simply you were a game changer for myself and a lot of people. Big ups!
