It was a pleasure to get a chance to do my second Sasha remix after working on his classic Xpander some years ago. This time I had his whole LNT album to go through which meant I could search to find a single motif to build something new around. I chose "Channel Deq" because of the main riff. It has a lovely timbre and had only been used in the context of a more ambient/electronica track. So I set about trying to make it into something more house/techno oriented, as I thought that could work for his wider audience as well.

I added some solid moog bass and some little chord sweeps with operator, plus a load of detailing with synplant and some strange spectral effects on the drums. I got a bit stuck on how to carry off the drums in way that was club-compatible but didn't sound too "normal", so I went a little bit UK with some shuffly snares and tried to keep the hats as loose as I could as well, so that it all felt a bit more humanised. As always, it was a balance between club punch and simplicity, and higher fidelity home listening aims, so it won't be super punchy in a club, but punchy enough, without the drums overtaking the mix so for home listening you can still get all the melodic richness and detailing.

I apologise for making a 13 minute track with only 3 different sounds!

It's a bit of a reaction to our constant information bombardment and instant gratification music - you just need to step back from everything for a while and let it wash over for this one to work.

The whole thing is hinged on a sequence of 4 notes playing at different rates forwards and in reverse using Alexander Randon's Fugue Machine. It's a simple pattern but it grabbed me and made me want to strip the track back to the minimum possible number of elements to focus on the pattern.

I think we pick up on the fact that there's an interesting pattern hiding in there in the simplicity. The fast riff that opens up is a classic Juno 6 sound too, which also made me want to put it out there unadulterated. I gave in eventually and added one percussive element and some extra chord layers, but you have to wait about 8 minutes for that.

It's certainly not for everyone, but I hope it works for you...it gets pretty intense too btw, but I guess you've had that before from me.

My second work for Robot´s label is a remix for one of his own 'Crystal Grid' 
I chopped, reversed and pitched the original samples glueing them together again as a 3 part cinematic mini composition. Starting with ambiences and subtle rhythms that  feel like you listen to your inner body while your journey goes further and turns your attention to  your near surroundings as the piano and beats get more defined. The third act is opening up an ocean of sounds filling your mind from every source of sound you can absorb till the wave of excitement coincides back to your inner self. 

The whole ep includes many more great takes on Robot´s music by Daniel Brandt, Chi Thanh and Jan Wagner and new material that hasnt made it onto his album.
