Spaces explores the relation of two different sound objects in three different spaces. The inspiration to this piece stems from the mathematical theory of a "topological space", a structure that allows one to define notions such as connectedness, continuity, inside, outside, openness and closedness. The composition develops a path from the pure abstract space through the inside of an acoustically closed room into an outside scenery.
The composition is written completely in SuperCollider and runs on any up to date computer. It features aleatoric elements, so each performance differs in a subtle way from the other. The overall structure is fixed.

This Composition has been featured on the Linux Audio Conference 2014 in the ZKM_cube.

Spaces

A work for an experimental short film of artist Astarte la Vierge.

I use a lot of timestretching an granular synthesis together with concrete elements on this piece. Although it is composed to fit the film it also works as standalone music for me. 

This is a second version. I replaced the file with a different mix that makes the last two parts more pleasent to listen to...

My latest work. Might still undergo some minor modifications and a name change. I'd like to know what you think about it. feel free to share your comments and critiques on this piece.

It is build upon three tracks of a live performance (Guitar, Nord Modular, Guitar-Granulator)with heavy postprocessing and corrections.

Black Light

This is new experimental work. I tried to do some algorithmic composition with SuperCollider again, using samples from mechanical clocks, cameras, metallic objects and so on. I think, I'll work on it in the future, but for now it seems in a reasonable good state. 

This track is just one rendering of the algorithm. The piece is aleatoric to a great extend and so the main parts (besides the winding noise in the beginning, the first musicbox section and the tic toc in the end) are differing a lot.

I tried to melt different tonal material played live into a timestretching device to blend into one another, creating an interesting structure.

This piece was done using the granulator, but I controlled it through my new Nord Modular G2 which was quite inspiring.

TDDDT - Klanggerüst Erfurt - Set 2

The Dandy Desmond Doping Tour at the Kurztheaterspektakel 2012 in Jena. Special guest Thomas Prestin on Saxophone.

The performance took place in Tim Helbigs sound installation that consisted of 16 different water tubes which were driven by 8 channel sound. 8 tubes formed an inner circle surrounding the ensemble and the other 8 formed an outer circle doubling the inner ones. Some sounds in the concert were put directly on the tubes together with ambisonic placement. Others were played directly. The audience was placed between the inner and outer circle of tubes. It was a very intimate concert. 

TDDDT - Kurztheaterspektakel 04.11.2012

These are some short pieces from a Jam Session that took place at Jan Zehns Studio on the 15th of October 2012. The guitar was plugged straight into the GuitarGranulator and its 2 channel output was taken directly into Jans Cymasonics synthesizer. This is a Modular patch with 4 channel output that spreads the sound in spaces according to Lissajous or cymasonical figures. What you hear is a stereo mixdown of the original 4 channel mix. 

Keyboards were played by Jan.
Guitar was played by Martin.

I'm right now working on a audio visual piece called 心 (kokoro - mind). When I played around today with some old recordings and resynthesized them, I stumbled upon this. Maybe its not 心 enough right now, but it is sureley inspirational to me.
