In November Rush Hour is set to release a suitably celebratory and carefully curated compilation from Amsterdam scene stalwarts Kamma & Masalo, named in honour of their day and night party in Amsterdam that’s been going since 2014, and their former Worldwide FM radio show, Brighter Days. Positivity abounds across the compilation which draws not only on the dustiest corners of their record collections, but also the duo’s stash of secret weapons, previously unreleased re-edits, and new productions from friends within Amsterdam’s bourgeoning scene. The three tracks presented here offer a suitably vivid snapshot of the collection’s enticing blend of tactile and colourful house, sunrise-ready workouts, soaring disco, basement-ready throb-jobs, inspired dancefloor dubs and righteous boogie jams.

There’s ‘Kamma & Masalo’s Radio Edit’ of Discotheque’s 1982 Dutch-Belgian disco classic ‘For Your Love’– a highlight of their and Antal’s DJ sets over the last 12 months – and their previously unreleased ‘Dub’ of French-Cameroonian artist Anyzette’s 1984 gem ‘Baladoun’, a low-slung slice of drum machine-rich body music that blurs the boundaries between Italo-disco, Afro-boogie and proto-techno. The inclusion of Peffa’s ‘Routine’ highlights the pair’s ongoing relationship with the little-known producer. He’s been supplying them with unreleased secret weapons for some time and ‘Routine’ – an immersive and emotive treat that blends elements of deep house and Detroit techno – is one of his very best.

After previous well-received collaborations published on acclaimed outlets such as Frank Music, Another Rhythm, and &Friends, AP & Gimbrère land now on Tensnake's True Romance with a lovely EP: "Love On The Rocks" comes packed with a too-much-groove-to-be-true gait delivered by the beautiful title track - in two versions (Original and Extended) - and the melodic "Add Up", the closing act.

And who are the lads? Gimbrère is an Amsterdam-based DJ and producer whose passion for the magic that music triggers on the dance floor started in his middle teens. In addition to the aforementioned, his works have already appeared on cool labels like, for instance, White Widow, Eight0Eight Records, and Future Disco. Owen Micallef aka AP, in turn, hails from Malta and has been fighting the good fight also since a tender age. His solo flights can be found on Love Attack, Tinted, theBasement Discos, and Pomme Frite, just to name a few.

Premiered here, the main piece of the EP is a stunning 134-BPM Trance-meets-Italo-Disco-meets-Hi-NRG gem designed to bring about euphoria and exhilaration to its following. Caveat Emptor: Strictly peak time!

Accomplished UK mainstay J1Mi launches the long awaited Beyonders label with a fantastic first EP that captures the eclectic nature of his sound.

J1mi aka James Hadfield has been making all manner of sounds for years - both solo and as one half of Lizards - from house to disco, Balearic to techno, and always on revered labels like MeMeMe, Not An Animal, Leng, Futureboogie and Phonica. He is part of the Beyonders collective that was started by Jason and Mark Goodings of 90’s pioneering breaks and drum and bass duo Hidden Agenda. The collective is now back after a hiatus following Mark's tragic passing in 2016 and is as fruitful as ever with members including James as well as Mal Sharp and Nick Grimes and now a new label.

James continues to host Beyonders Present events in his hometown of Newcastle and has played at the likes of Glastonbury, Stowaway and Pikes this year, as well as across Europe in the past. Luke Una and Man Power are big supporters of his work and this is the first EP from the collective and label, with the following four all mastered and ready to go over the next year.

The brilliant 'Sixes Now' has a menacing synth screwing about the mix before percussive grooves and elastic bass arrive to lock you into a dark disco groove full of menace and suspense. The thumping 'Modern Maze' is another hugely inventive sound with rickety rhythms, erotic vocal coos and wiry synths. A bewitching breakdown brings acoustic guitars and places the vocal front and centre before the punchy house kicks come back once more.
'Desire' featuring Crazy P vocalist Danielle Moore is an indie disco cut with jazzy chords and playful funk riffs that lift the spirits and cruise on smooth grooves. Closer 'Japanese Kipling' is a prickly brew with off-grid hots and vocal sounds, distant hits of melody and dubby rhythms that are wonderfully intoxicating.

This standout first EP very much sets the scene for what is sure to be a crucial UK label.

It was cold out here in the middle of nowhere. The stars were bright and glistening against a deep, murky, black backdrop as if the sky was acting as some sort of stage upon which they might dance and shimmer.

The boat continued to move over the water, drifting softly and slowly onwards through the night. It was deadly silent but for the occasional ripple of water.

Perhaps this was what serenity truly felt like?

He began to melt slowly away, much like the cold and the ice which surrounded them on all sides as they moved onwards through the passageway. One day all of this would be a distant memory, a nostalgic reflection of an exhibition through the North.

For now it was simply a case of absorbing each breath, taking in the cold abyss and melting away.

The successful re-launch of Alinka and Shaun J. Wright’s musical baby Twirl continues. Following her critically acclaimed ‘Day Dreamer’ EP and a supreme label debut from friend Serge G., ‘Spanish Cassette’ (feat. remixes from Wright and DJ Holographic), Alinka returns with a classy three-tracker ‘Sorry for Not Trending’.

The EP was created during a fertile writing period in late 2022 that birthed her recent ‘Day Dreamer’ work, with the Kyiv-born Alinka finding solace in music creation following the loss of her grandmother, while processing the escalation of the war in Ukraine.

‘Sorry for Not Trending’, is a tongue-in-cheek nod to influencer culture, led by the glorious first single ‘Deep Into The Vibe’. Imbued with the spirit of Chicago, where Alinka was a resident at Justin Long's .Dotbleep party at Smartbar for almost a decade, the cut is a masterclass in fun, as catchy riffs, bouncy drumlines and an infectious old skool energy propel it forward. ‘Neon Fantasy’ is a cosmic trip; crisp and driving, it’s made for late-night moments when the dancefloor demands a thematic shift to keep bodies moving. ‘Night Tales’ brings forth proggy melodic flourishes and chugging b-lines, for a singular yet satisfying closer. 

“'Sorry For Not Trending' is a playful reference to today's culture of clicks, likes, and follows, and the concept of equating online popularity and trends to artistic value. It’s a reminder to look beyond what the algorithms tell us is worthy and to form your own path. It’s music for the dance floor. Alinka is the kind of DJ other DJ’s will tell you about. She has a unique power on the decks that comes from lifelong passion and time served, with a focused devotion to her first love – house music. Raised on Chicago’s vibrant house sound with toes dipped into Detroit techno, Europe’s more robust approaches to bass music and the myriad of genre’s coming from cities like Berlin, London and Paris.

Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, her early childhood included reluctantly learning the piano, her mother is a pianist, while trying to convince her parents to let her play guitar. Her exposure to Western music was limited, living in a communist country where censorship was common practice. Her family eventually immigrated to Chicago as Jewish refugees in the late ‘80s as the USSR crumbled. This was her first experience of pop music and she fell head over heels for the chart sounds of Madonna and Janet Jackson. Then came house music from local radio shows where you could frequently hear tracks by Chicago legends like Cajmere and DJ Funk, and shows like Sonic Boom helped expose underground music to the masses.

By the late ‘90s, music had taken over her life. Teenage Alinka immersed herself in the dance music scene spending her summer pulling double shifts at a local pool and moonlighting for rave promoters to build up enough cash to buy decks. After a year of skipping class to relentlessly practice her mixing skills, she began her full-time musical pursuit. Working for various club promoters, doing odd jobs passing out flyers and helping with party logistics - anything just to get into clubs underage to see her favourite DJs - all while spending hours digging for tracks at Chicago’s legendary record shop Gramaphone. In 2001 Justin Long recruited her to be the opening resident for his .Dotbleep party at Smartbar where she honed her skills for the best part of a decade.

In 2012, an impromptu meeting with former Hercules and Love Affair vocalist, Shaun J. Wright, changed her life forever. Their evolving friendship resulted in what would be the first of many musical collaborations. The pair launched their Twirl parties and label, continually strived to inspire each other both musically and spiritually, the result has been an impressive catalogue of material for both of them collaboratively and individually on the likes of The Classic Music Company, Jackathon Jams, Crosstown Rebels, Leftroom, and of course Twirl, where as well as their own material the duo have welcomed renowned artists like Spencer Parker, Virginia, LA-4A, Kim Ann Foxman, and Jason Kendig onto the label.

Recent years have seen Alinka really hit her stride as a producer with successful releases on world renown labels like Rekids, Crosstown Rebels, Need Want, Permanent Vacation, and Peggy Gou’s Gudu Records, which is forthcoming in 2024. She also turned out a standout collection of remixes for labels Me Me Me, Live At Robert Johnson, Lone Romantic, Keinemusik, Get Physical and Pets Recordings.

Now living in Berlin, Alinka has well and truly found her feet and inspiration. Alinka has used this base to throw down at parties across Europe from Berghain/Panorama Bar to Circoloco, with regular visits back to the US to play standout clubs like Smart Bar and Ukraine's famous ∄ club in Kyiv, both before and during the on-going war. Her evolution continues with the recent re-launch of her Twirl imprint, highlighted by the ‘Day Dreamer’, ‘Sorry For Not Trending’ and ‘Edgewater’ EPs that finely balance Alinka’s future-focused ethos, with a unmistakable, proud passion for her Chicago heritage.
