‘BODYGUARD’is a six track EP by DJ, producer and interdisciplinary artist 8ULENTINA. ‘BODYGUARD’ addresses themes of protection and the tension around what it means to feel safe. How do bodies protect each other? How do we deal with that mutual responsibility and trust?

8ULENTINA is a DJ, producer, and interdisciplinary artist based in Oakland, California. 8ULENTINA is the co-founder of Club Chai, an event series, curatorial project, record label and radio show that hybridizes non-western sounds with electronic music. 8ULENTINA’s work focuses on creating diasporic spaces through the use of sound, sculpture, garments and video. Their sets include a wide range of BPMs and genres, piecing together different percussive styles, combining non-western dance music with club, techno, rap and RnB. 8ULENTINA’s debut EP ‘EUCALYPTUS’ was released February 2018 via Club Chai and has a forthcoming EP ‘BODYGUARD’ which will be released March 15th with London based label TT.

"This mix is 100% dedicated to the spiral. It’s like having a meltdown but keeping your composure. I tried to keep the same BPM (which I rarely do) and energy : lots of trancey, dreamy synth mixed with hard hitting techno, logobi and kuduro. A balance between intricate and hypnotic afro-rhythm and other things. 

It’s always an experience recording a club mix outside of a club because my DJ Sets are super informed by my perception of the crowd, the dancing, the generosity, the general atmosphere but now I’m alone in front of my CDJ’s and my own demons" - @crystallmess
