Welcome to Drunk on Language! 

Here in this space, we get some alcohol and a book, usually, and talk about language.  In this episode, we unpack and analyze the book Polyglot (1970) by Dr. Kató Lomb, and take some tips from one of the 20th century's most accomplished interpreters.  In the book, she reveals her personal strategies that helped her master 16 languages.

Perhaps no made-up language has generated as much interest in the 21st century as Valyrian and Dothraki, from the Ice and Fire series of books by American author George R.R. Martin.    Valyrian languages are the topic of this episode, the Season 1 finale of Drunk on Language.

Game of Thrones brought Dothraki to life through Jason Mamoa's performance, becoming unforgettable.   House of the Dragon Season 1 did much the same for High Valyrian, with Matt Smith and Milly Alcock putting their all into the dragonlord tongue.

House of the Dragon Season 2 will drop soon, and herein we take a look at what all those dragonlords are saying.  Valyrian is quite comparable to Latin, and that's an intentional decision by George.  Learn more about why on this podcast.
