Entirely composed of manipulations of a field recording of filling a kettle, boiling it, then making a cup of tea.

The recording was loaded into several instances of Ableton's Simpler sampler. One track was created using Simpler's Slice function. The results of this were sent to a group of ApulSoft ApQualizr's each narrowly bandpassing a group of frequencies determined by ear. This was repeated with another track using different frequencies. The results were additionally ducked and filtered.

Another track used pitched versions of a section of the original recording and these were passed through Albedo and convolution reverbs.  A further track was a snipped sample from the original recording played through Ableton's Wavetable synthesizer with the table position being modulated by an envelope based on the synth's output.

These tracks were then variously panned, filtered, compressed and volume-automated to create the final track.

Forever Forest

I collaborated with Luc Cage, not to be confused with Luke Cage. Luc is a not so well known sound engineer interested in the intersection of sound, space and mood, heavily influenced by the world of Musique concrète, drawing influence from the likes of Luc Ferrari, Arnold Schönberg and John cage, Luc wanted to provide a tension of maximalism and randomness teetering on the edge of anxiety, with a mild human touch.

I contributed a set of field recordings that were re-imagined into loops as well as some sampled harp, delicately chopped stretched and reworked with the help of NI reaktor, after a few months wading through the world of hardware synthesis, it was refreshing to return to the computer, DAW and manual sound design that I started with so many years ago.

Two conversations of no importance [disquiet0468]

Disquiet Junto Project 0468: Mirror Rorrim. The Assignment: Create a new persona for yourself, and record a duet together.

Andreas likes software, ambient pads and (mostly) avoids repetition – and he has recently tried out "Quadrivium" by Giorgio Sancristoforo. Saerdna likes hardware, beats and repetition and tries to do rhythms with noises recorded out of the "Soma Ether" by Vlad Kreimer.

I found 2 unused sample recordings by these guys and helped them to put them together (admittedly: overhasty for the "Remainder Duet". (Irrelevant fun fact: The loop in Reaper runs with a bpm of 100.695…)
