II. 'Sarabande in 31edo' for Fokker organ (2020)

I made a very realistic string quartet in the synthesizer software Sunvox! No samples are used, it all starts with basic waveforms...

This should be the final composition included in "The Equal Tempered Keyboard" project, which has been going on for the past 20 years (gasp). In this book, each equal division of the octave between 5 and 20 tones gets a prelude and fugue or two part invention. For 19ET I had written two pieces, but neither of them was a fugue or invention, rather the set was a "Prelude and Rondo". I decided that didn't fit the project well enough, so I wrote this short fugue yesterday (13. Sept. 2020) to replace the Rondo. Some remarks about each tuning will be included in the book. Those are not quite finished yet, but I plan to publish the book by the end of the year.

The scale is a chain of half-fourths. Here the melody always is a 5-note subset of the full scale to match the underlying chord.

The lyrics are actually in English but not intended to be easily intelligible.

This is a piece for Finger Piano, Bass Flute, Cello, and Dry Spring. The Dry Spring is an amplified percussion instrument I made back in the 1970′s for live performance. All the sounds are made with Csound as a sample based synthesizer. Tuning is 53 tone to the octave equal divisions of octave (53-EDO). There are many sections where the pitch is shifted up by one 53-EDO step at a time, almost imperceptively.
