Music and art have always been powerful tools for catalysing change.

Right now, more than ever, we need our musicians, artists and creative types to turn their talents toward affecting positive change in the world.

I’ve long thought it would be great to see a proper modern protest music movement, and don’t think there’s nearly enough music that expresses a political view, provokes thought or raises awareness. So I’ve been collecting tracks like that for a while now, and have finally gathered enough to put together a little mix to share. After all, they can’t quite censor music (yet).

from the ephemeral archives, rescued from a forgotten cassette that has been wrapped in a bandana, sitting in the bottom of a box, under a bed, somewhere on the other side of the planet. a mix tape from dj seymour butz recorded during a magical / mystical / wonky / woozy / wobbly late Sunday night at club kooky around the end of 1996. Featuring tracks from B(if)tek, itch-e + scratch-e, Khan, Severed heads, DJ HMC, Murk, Air Liquide and some un shazam-able forgotten track names now lost in the ether.
