Just One Question

“I doubt that Rory Gallagher was as good as this at the age of 15!"

Since headlining London’s Charlotte Street Blues Club at the tender age of only 12, Oxford’s 16 year old Aaron Keylock is now a veteran of over 300 live shows, playing either solo or with his great young rhythm section, sharing festival stages in Spain, Holland & France with Slash, Joe Bonamassa and Black Stone Cherry.

“We were here to see Nine Below Zero, but thought we might as well check out the support act. While we were chatting, a trio of teenagers (we're talking pre GCSE here) had mounted the stage and ripped into a hard 'n' heavy instrumental blues. All around us jaws dropped. Diminutive and fresh-faced, with straggly hair and wearing a check shirt and jeans, Aaron Keylock looks like a young Rory Gallagher - except that I doubt that Gallagher was as good as this at the age of 15. Boy, can that boy play blues guitar; fast and intricate, slow and heavy, the works”. (Word Magazine)

Whilst paying homage to influences such as Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher, The Faces, Rolling Stones and Blackfoot the 16-year old guitar prodigy has written over 30 songs including the impressive “Medicine Man”.

Being the counterpart of a blues-rock Justin Bieber didn’t help at a recent gig at London’s Hoxton Underbelly:

"We sound checked and then went for pizza, when we went back security wouldn’t let us in as we were under age. We explained we were due on stage in 10 minutes and only got in when the sound engineer appeared and vouched for us”

Keylock is the real deal despite his adolescence, he is influenced by US mid western blues in a way that is both genuinely and shockingly authentic. He is an aspiring new blues talent unaffected by the mainstream media and marketing clichés. If you are looking an antidote to transient music celebrity you just found it....
