America, I Need You

Aaron Zig recorded The Medicine’s Kicking In, his first solo studio album, at Stone Gossard’s (Pearl Jam) Studio Litho in Seattle, WA. It was co-produced with Ed Brooks. Brooks engineered and assisted on legendary albums including R.E.M.’s Automatic For The People and produced acts including The Walkabouts. Brooks is known as Seattle’s foremost mastering engineer and plays pedal steel on the album.

A group of Seattle’s finest musicians were gracious enough to jump on board the album. They include Andrew Joslyn on strings (Macklemore, Mark Lanegan, Kris Orlowski), Abby Gundersen on fiddle (Le Wrens, Noah Gundersen), and vocalists Annie Jantzer and Tekla Waterfield (BLVD Park).

Influences in recording philosophy and writing include, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave, Paul Simon and Van Morrison (specifically Astral Weeks). There is an emphasis on lyrical flights of imagination about finding our place in the world in the face of cultural definitions of success. This is an album about seeking an authentic life. It includes imagined landscapes, interludes and explorations that create an open entry point for the listener to determine what The Medicine’s Kicking In means to them.
