Already before Aart van Bergen went to the conservatory to study jazz saxophone he played a lot of concerts with his group Blue Punch Jazz Quintet. With this hard-bop group he won several jazz competitions such as Amsterdam Student Jazz Festival (2004) and the University of Amsterdam Cultural Festival (2005).

In 2006 he started his studies at the Rotterdam Conservatory Codarts with teachers Simon Rigter, Dick de Graaf and Ben van den Dungen. In 2010 Aart van Bergen graduated with his new group Crescent Double Quartet playing his own compositions and arrangements.

A year before finishing music school, in 2009, he made his first EP Storm City Tales with his group Aart van Bergen Sextet. This album featured his first adventurous compositions in jazz. 2010 was the year in which the Crescent Double Quartet was founded. In 2011 a full CD will be released with the Crescent Double Quartet called Radio Mundial.
