In these fastmoving times, where many acts come and go in the space of a few blog posts, it's becoming harder and harder to find artists with true staying power. Anu Pillai aka Freeform Five is one of those rare artists. Following an impressive series of originals & remixes and productions for artists like Ladyhawke, Santigold, Lana Del Rey and Little Boots, he returned to the scene with ‘Weltareh’, a collaboration with Gambian griot and master musician Juldeh Camara. On ‘Leviathan’ Freeform Five teams up with the legendary Róisín Murphy for an exercise in irresistible vocal power and anthemic, feel good appeal. Tom Trago delivers an incarnation of ‘Leviathan’ that highlights the shimmering synths and melodies and puts the funk edge and drum beats centre stage. Cage & Aviary provide a slice of dirty electro tech in their remix teeming with solid claps and bleeps and FX.

One of the youngest DJs on the Belgian DJ circuit, Maxime Firket aka Compuphonic soon moved onto the international scene with a release on Tiga’s Turbo Recordings. Further releases came on other highly acclaimed labels including Get Physical, Modular, Darkroom Dubs, Systematic Recordings, 2020 Vision and Parquet Recordings. On his ‘Leviathan’ remix, Compuphonic injects a playful bounce into the soaring sonics of the original melody.

South London based Cage & Aviary provide a slice of dirty electro tech in their remix teeming with solid claps and bleeps and FX. The duo started off with releases on the much acclaimed Dissident Distribution and have since appeared on DFA, Tiny Sticks, Astro Lab and Prins Thomas' Internasjonal label. They also run their own label The Walls Have Ears. 

Tom Trago delivers two incarnations of ‘Leviathan’ firstly a dub version that highlights the shimmering synths and melodies and puts the funk edge and drum beats centre stage. His remix closing the package reintroduces Róisín’s unforgettable voice. Tom Trago is one of the Netherland’s finest producers and is the most prominent artist on Amsterdam institution Rush Hour Recordings, his third album came out on the label October last year and he also curates the offshoot label series Voyage Direct.

Aashton - Show You (All Dom Wrong Remix)

Aashton is the new alias of Brighton based DJ and producer Dominic Ashton, former lead singer of the band Kinema and one-half of House duo Aashton & Swift.
In early 2012, following the relocation of its various members, Kinema split and finding himself increasingly making straight up club music Dominic decided to join forces with Bristolian Mike Swift under the name Aashton & Swift. 
Released on Body Work (Waze & Odyssey/LPZ/Semedo) the debut A&S EP, ‘Holy House’ was an instant hit supported by a wide range of DJs from Horse Meat Disco to Sister Bliss, featured in DJ Mag and on sites such as XLR8R and Data Transmission and named one of Bleep.com’s ‘Tracks of 2012’.
Buoyed by that success Aashton & Swift would go on to remix the likes of Firas (one half of Waze & Odyssey), Compuphonic (on Get Physical), Logo (on Kitsune), All Dom Wrong (on Plant Music) and Mickey (on Smile) and would soon regularly feature on sites such as XLR8R, Discobelle, Harder Blogger Faster and many more.
Following an amicable parting of the ways though Dominic has now gone solo and hit the ground running in December 2013 with an acclaimed remix for Australian band Clubfeet and the free to download introductory ‘EP1’. 
With remixes for the likes of Italian producers Ajello and original EPs on Loungin’ Recordings, Body Work and Delayed Audio all set for release over the next few months expect to hear a lot more from Aashton in 2014.

Loframes - Get Real (Can't Touch Your Love) (Aashton Extended Remix)

After a storming end to 2014 with the incredible Ilya Santana release in November featuring remixes by Nelue, Future Feelings, Thomass Jackson & Rayko, we released we had set the bar pretty high but Retrospective are back with a monster of a release. We are proud to kick off 2015 with none other than Italy’s finest; Ajello who are back with their second E.P. on the label! 

Eclecticism is definately the keyword word of the Ajello project comprising of Luca (DJ Rocca) Roccatagliati and Fabrizio Taver Tavernelli. The Ajello sound features a number of influences all of which can be heard in the tracks on this, their first E.P. on Retrospective; electro, new-wave, italo-disco, disco, neurofunk, eurodance, space sounds, early house. Over the years their music has received worldwide support from a host of international artists including Laurent Garnier, Erol Alkan, Dimitri From Paris, Andrew Weatherall, and Nick Fanciulli amongst others.

As this is the second E.P. of 2 from Ajello we decided to take the remixes for this project to the next level. First up is Luminodisco of House Of Disco fame, undoubtedly one of Nu Disco’s pioneers with a heritage to match who has reworked Montgomery Clift ready for the main room. The second mix is delivered by none other than YamWho? best known for his Midnight Riot & ISM imprints who delivers a pure Disco groover. Finally for the vinyl release is Retrospective’s own Rayko serving up his “best remix ever” in his own words! In addition, for the digital release Aashton of Aashton & Swift fame brings his signature house flavor to the fold alongside an instrumental of the original for the heads. Quite a package I’m sure you will agree!

Following on from the success of their debut single Loframes (London born artist James Yuill and French producer Franck Russo) return with a cover of the classic French House track 'In Love With You' by The Paradise (Alan Braxe). One of the duo's favourite tracks, the cover has already received the enthusiastic blessing of Mr Braxe and comes complete with remixes from Parisian producer Monsieur Adi, Brighton’s Aashton and Belgian new-comers Shut Yo Waffle.

With remix credits for the likes of Lana Del Rey and Bastille, Monsieur Adi is one of France’s most exciting and in-demand producers and his remix of ‘ILWY’ shows just why, lowering the tempo whilst raising the funk to turn in an irresistible remix.

Having remixed Loframes debut, Brighton’s Aashton returns with another of his trademark club tools, perfect for when you just want to lock the dancefloor in and take them deep into the mix.

Finally Belgian brother’s Shut Yo Waffle make their debut with a sensational remix, that pits bruising bass line up against rough and ready beats for a mix that’s as tasty and more-ish as their namesake snack. Expect to hear a lot more form them over the coming months.
