I’m aaskeew, and this is House Through Time—a series exploring the roots and evolution of house music from Chicago’s underground dance floors to its global impact today. 

In the early ’80s, amid the aftermath of the infamous Disco Demolition and a segregated cityscape, Black and LGBTQ+ communities in Chicago forged a new sonic identity in clubs like The Warehouse. Pioneering DJs such as Frankie Knuckles and Ron Hardy spliced disco, funk, and soul with drum machines (think Roland’s TR-808, TR-909, and TB-303) to craft the pumping four-on-the-floor beats that became “house.”
From that raw DIY spirit emerged music that was radically inclusive, unifying dancers of all backgrounds under strobe lights and a shared pulse. This set is more than a mix—it’s a deep dive into the anthems, edits, and rhythmic innovations that shaped Chicago house into a worldwide force.

I’m aaskeew, and this is House Through Time—a series exploring the roots and evolution of house music from Chicago’s underground dance floors to its global impact today. 

Today we tunnel straight into mid‑’80s Chicago, when a half‑abandoned bass synth called the Roland TB‑303 met DJs with nothing to lose and endless curiosity. One of those DJs, Ron Hardy, slammed an untitled demo from a trio called Phuture onto the Music Box system; dancers dubbed it “Ron Hardy’s Acid Trax,” and the rest is squelchy history .
In those after‑hours basements, Black and queer kids—shut out of mainstream clubs after Disco Demolition—found a new way to talk to each other: hypnotic 4/4 kicks, hissy 707 snares, and that wobbling 303 line that felt like the future melting in real time. Acid house was punk in attitude, DIY in production, and radically inclusive on the floor. That spirit still hums inside every filter‑tweaked bassline you’ll hear in this mix.

Now we cross the Atlantic to late‑’80s Britain, in the midst of a Second Summer of Love. Under grey skies, a neon youth revolution took shape—pirate radio crackling with late-night beats, ecstasy turning crowds of strangers into one ecstatic family, and DIY rave culture transforming warehouses and fields into temples of sound. 
From London’s tiny Shoom to Manchester’s iconic Haçienda, acid house ignited an entire generation and gave the Chicago sound a bold new British accent. That spirit of rebellion and togetherness still pulses through every track in this set. 

How to listen? Same rules as always: commuting, chilling with friends, daydreaming of festival fields—just press play and let it transport you. After all, whether in a club or under open skies, house music has always been about bringing people together.
