Piece For Piano C

On April 21st of this year, a lone and deranged gunman went on a killing spree of my countrymen in the province of Nova Scotia killing 22 people including a police officer.  Adding to this horrific tragedy is the fact that people were not able to publicly mourn their loss due to the lockdown requirements in place.  This composition is in commemoration of this deeply sad event.

I was experimenting with modal scales, in this case E phrygian. Finding it a little strange at the beginning I quickly got used to it and recognized that this is what often happens in our lives. We face situations that are unfamiliar and sometimes unwanted. But after some time we get used to them and consider them normal. It often helps to accept them and make the best of it.

This is another attempt at another modal scale, F Lydian, and a sudden improvisation on a late afternoon alone at home… after a long day working from home, actually after many such days, weeks, months… Home is a quite nice place for me!
