Quantum Axe Latest 5

The best summers I ever had are at least the summers of '99 and '01. This one is already a promising candidate for that category! I don't really know what makes a great summer, but maybe if you get to experience many exciting new things and the weather is mostly awesome. That could be it.

I tried to compose a very catchy track on purpose so this turned out to be my summer "hit". Usually the ones that are being played repeatedly on radio during summertime are terrible and/or get boring pretty fast. Hopefully that's not the case with this track.

I didn't use any arpeggiators here (believe it or not) although I certainly tried to achieve that effect. I think I did ok.

Can't Stand the Heat (a.k.a. Summer's Song)

An old guitar riff of mine from 2005 became the verse and the intro is at least somewhat inspired by Jan Hammer. The rest of the track is basically parts of an old track I did in 2014 called "Drive"... I prefer walking.

How'd I end up wearing those shorts on a dark, Croatian street? Haha. I can't remember. I'm a Shotokan disciple and that pose is my almost perfect 'gedan barai'. (2018)

On the Street's Where It's at

I had riffs that got out of hand and turned into this Nintendo (NES) tribute. Incidentally, I was going to only include the intro from a certain game and then use my riffs and make an original track, but I've been meaning to redo some game music I've always liked, so I did this. It was a bit of a chore, but a project I was really into. My riffs are secondary here, but they do create some of the excitement.

There's music and short clips from seven old games. Can you spot them?

The melodies in many old video games are surprisingly good and they've been with me for many many years. Game music is an inspiration and truly music that's not to be underestimated.  My goal was to not to listen to how these melodies really go, since it's been a while I've played some of these games, but instead to put out the versions I hear in my head. Some parts were very difficult to remember, but they're pretty damn close I say. I'm proud of this track.

Why is this part III you may ask. Well, the first two were only released in Japan under completely different names... That's a joke for serious gamers.

That image is in fact of the first time I ever held an NES controller and played a game. You can tell that by how I hold it in my hands. The game was "Ice Climber", but I didn't know the name then. Still haven’t finished it by the way. Good times and good memories. Game on guys! (2018)

Memories of Youth III

Simple chords and 80s soft (lame) rock inspired this track. I wanted to include some classical elements as well and those are near the end (1:52 onwards). I also tried to keep repetition at a minimum. That means following each section with a different one. Well, as much different as possible, but still keeping the flow interesting. Another goal was to keep this track under three minutes.

I think music is all about melody and this is what came out of that thought this time. I noticed a couple of ”wrong notes” here and there, but that’s part of what makes music real. (2018)

Do What You Wanna Do

I found another old MiniDisc with over three hours of my guitar riffs from around 2005. It seems that I don't really have to think of new stuff for a long time, because I noticed that I like most of them and can always "give them the KORG treatment". So, this track is mainly based on a couple of those old riffs, but about half of it is new stuff. I like the end result very much. The melody at the very end is basically Jan Hammer's "Payback" (2:44). I've always loved that track and the MV episode of the same name. (2018)
