Comeback

1947 is Abaasa's debut album. The idea stemmed from a 2014 dissertation on Ugandan traditional music. The album has 2 sides and was made to place emphasis on Ugandan music and sounds from before our Independence in 1962. Side A contains music leaning towards pop while side B has more Ugandan traditional based world music. 

Production and recording were done by Abaasa Rwemereza at Dustville Studios, C19, Electric Village and at his home studio in Makerere, Kampala. Additional Production was by Baru from Dustville. 

The album was mixed and mastered by Muhiire Nelson at C19 Studios, Kiwatule. 

Making the album involved working with several session musicians working on particular songs; Mutabingwa Martin on “Steven Crane” , John Inyanga on “Heal”, “1947” and “Save Me”, Mayanja Paul on “Wantengula” and Muhumuza Trevor on “Broken Piano”. The album also features songwriting from Twongyeirwe Isabel and Dustville Records artists Cosign and Pryce Teeba. Several samples of the traditional music were recorded from Ndere Cultural Center, Kisaasi.

The album is supposed to provide an insight into what exploration and experimentation can be done with Ugandan traditional sounds in order to understand and define more clearly our Ugandan culture
