Commissioned for The Rose Ensemble in 2005, the countertenor soloist is the Angel who, after announcing the news of Christ's resurrection, begins to wonder himself exactly where Christ has gone and how to find him. The vielle reassures the Angel of Christ's return by quoting the traditional Irish tune, "Jimmy, mo Mhile Stor," in which a young lady faithfully awaits her beloved. Reviewed as "whirling, soaring" and "audacious... edgy... and thrilling," the music of Abbie Betinis is being performed increasingly in the United States and abroad.

Abbie has received nearly fifty commissions for new music, by organizations such as the American Suzuki Foundation, Cantus, Cornell University, and the Dale Warland Singers.  In 2011, NPR Music and New York's WQXR Radio listed her in the top 100 Composers Under Forty.  A McKnight Fellowship recipient, she has been composer-in-residence with The Schubert Club since 2005, and has also held residencies with The Rose Ensemble and The Singers--Minnesota Choral Artists.

Abbie lives with her grand piano, Lester, at the tippy-top of a restored 19th century walk-up in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
