The early 2000s were a wonderfully creative time with lots of cross pollination between different musical styles, many genres we know so well today were formulating their DNA, unaware for what was to come. One such genre Grime was evolving it’s sound and this 2 hour mix revisits those early foundation days and the beats that were being made. Music from Youngstarr, Plastician, Black Ops, Hindzy D, DJ Charmzy, Slimzos, Geeneus and more, as well as some lesser known white labels.

In 2018 music ethnologist Arthur Boto Conley and I helped build the foundation for a conversation between Bangkok musician Anurak Boonliang and Palermo label owner Riccardo Schirò. Last week Boonliang released his first 12" SHADOW PLAY on Schirò's label Gravity Graffiti (Check it out here -> https://bit.ly/2TGoJZT) To celebrate this event Boonliang made a collage of some of his favorite outernational compositions from the last decade and abroad. ‎"Cover versions of well-known, well-liked tunes are often recorded by new artists to achieve initial success when their unfamiliar original material would be less likely to be successful. Prior to the onset of Rock 'n' Roll in the 1950s, songs were published and several records of a song might be brought out by singers of the day, each giving it their individual treatment. Any singer who appeared to be copying an already successful version of the song would be viewed with disfavour. The trend, however, became for records to be produced, usually with particular background noises, and no other group would attempt a version."
