Abe Duque (real name Carlos Abraham Duque Alcivar) remains a larger than life character within electronic music in general - and his hometown of New York in particular. His incredibly prolific output over the past 20+ years has firmly established him as legend status, and he shows no sign of letting up.

The Float Away EP lands courtesy of his own Abe Duque Records, and features Nicole Arrington - the New York based singer-songwriter, dancer, and actress. Float Away (Chapter 1) introduces us to this incredible talent, a powerful vocal building and eventually giving way to a tough as nails acidic house banger. Float Away (Chapter 2) works similar magic, providing a deep, driving bed of streamlined acid with Nicole’s strong vocals riding the frequencies with total conviction.  
Taboo also comes in two versions; the original delivers a more laid-back, jazz inflected house vibe for Arrington’s vocals to reach full expressiveness, and a Matt Law mix that focuses fully on the club. Laser sharp drums, cut up vocals and deep vibes make this a guaranteed floor filler. Digital customers also get Float Away in its instrumental form for club / DJ use.

The New York legend returns with another five tracks of excellence on his own Abe Duque Records. Abe Duque, (real name Carlos Abraham Duque Alcivar), remains a vital presence in the techno scene, intimately linked with the development of the genre via his hometown New York. 

Darkside (Redone Mix) is typically deranged – switching from a long intro into a bubbling 80’s influenced 303 jam before breaking down to a sparkling melodic ending. More Comfortable For You is an epic opener - a driving analog techno jam with his signature sound design and intoxicating use of vocal cut ups and snippets. A disembodied sax reminds us that we are in the presence of a man that never plays it safe.  Don’t Stop is heads down robot rave music while Neyahh manages to incorporate some seriously classic elements - breakbeats, sub bass, bird tweets and a New Order style bass line. Futureshock closes this package of diverse and adventurous dance music with a more traditionally 90s vibe  - a unhinged, ravey lead, tight percussion and unexpected breakdowns - the stuff that sets Mr Duque apart from the crowd.
Don't Stop, Neyahh and Futureshock were actually created back in the eighties.

Abe Duque, the New York legend who famously described himself as one of the "few producers still licensed to use the 303", has never let up in terms of his output. 

His commitment to his sound and take-no-prisoners attitude has seen him go from strength to strength over his considerable career - his first release was in 1995. 

These fresh three tracks are a collaboration with Marco Di Prima - and the results are predictably amazing.  

All In One kicks off the release, starting from a very deep place, and slowing building in energy. The synth programming is outstanding - sounds and textures bubble up and fade away creating a deep sense of space, while the percussion and kick provide the forward propulsion.   

Destroy the Console comes from a different angle - a rude, noisy intro gives way to a pounding techno banger that will shake walls, nevermind speakers. This being Abe Duque - the acid is never far from proceedings. 
Hold the Phone rounds things off - a distorted kick drives the track, with frenetic, restless synths and white noise punctuating the rhythm.

Abe Duque has built a long and much-respected career as a producer in his own right - but here he flexes his role as a mentor to young producers and shares with us a new protege - Neon Jesus.

The master met the student while teaching at Dubspot, and the two got on so well they began to produce music together, creating what Duque describes as a very unique sound - incorporating the student’s guitar-based bluesy electronic influence.  After an evening exploring Berlin’s Techno temple Tresor, the young producer made his first Techno track - Moisture. 

The original version is all Neon Jesus - pounding drums, synth lines and the deeply distorted and treated electronic guitar that’s pushed to the max - making for a wildly exciting take on underground techno. 

Abe Duque steps up with his own remix of the track - and we get a glimpse of how the pair inspire each other. Duque’s deep, wonky groove redefines the tracks parameters, respects the wigged out guitars and adds a signature acid line to proceedings.

Abe Duque, whose service to the cause of quality underground techno now spans three decades. 20 years after his first release, his latest long player "Rules For The Modern DJ" on his own Abe Duque Recordings typifies his refreshing approach to finely crafted, darkly humorous and forward-thinking dance music.

Duque, real name Carlos Abraham Duque Alcivar, remains a vital presence in the techno scene, intimately linked with the development of the genre via his hometown New York. Duque was an integral part of NYC’s now legendary Limelight Club – a space immortalized since its closing by the rapturous memories of its performers and clubbers alike. Duque co-ran the Abuse Industries night – a seminal series of events that helped germinate techno in the Big Apple in the 90s and provided the launch pad for Abe’s career as a celebrated techno artist, live performer, remixer and label boss. High profile projects with the likes of Pet Shop Boys and the Chemical Brothers pricked the consciousness of the mainstream to his talents, but to underline his ambivalence to this kind of success, he also released his landmark “So Underground it Hurts” LP around the same time.
